And also have some time on the PP/PK.

I think Marleau and Thornton can be effective players moving into their mid 30's and put up decent numbers (40-50 pts.). They have been pretty much injury free for most of their careers due to their playing style and I cant imagine that changing any time soon.

They would be nice complementary players to the players stepping up or coming onto the team; guys like Couture, Hertl, and Kuraly.

If Marleau and Thornton really loved SJ and wanted to finish their respective careers here they would be wise to get on board with this idea. If not, they should just waive their NMC over the summer and accept a trade to wherever Dougie can get maximum return.

You may be right. Some GM may pay Thornton $6M a year as a 35 year old center with declining stats to go with it.

I was going to say $15MM but I thought that may be too high. Boyle would be 38 going into a new contract and Marleau/Thornton would both be 35 going into the new deal. Tough to pay that kind of dough, especially with the shrinking of the salary cap. The only comparable would be Gonchar and Alfredsson's deals; Gonchar got $5.5M and Alfredsson got $4.8

The 2011 Bruins were carried by Thomas, no doubt about that. I always said that if Niemi played like Thomas or the way Quick did last year, the Sharks would have already celebrated a cup victory.

Its good but not great and yes I will look at age because 35+ contracts are scary. And if you're paying him that money, there is no way he is falling into a secondary position and you still have the same team but 2 years older. Rest assure, Thornton will be looking for a 3 year deal.

i think this is the grey area that the flyers were hoping they walked around with pronger lol.

because july 2nd is his bday, and he will have been signed on july 1st or earlier lol. but the season starts when he is 35.
