Would current best possible Team Sweden be a threat in best on best tournament? On paper.

Does Sweden still have a strong team for a best on best tourament? I know such a tournament wont happen for a while, but its fun to speculate.

Linus Ullmark
Jacob Markström
Anton Forsberg

Rasmus Dahlin - Gustav Forsling
Hampus Lindholm - Erik Karlsson
Victor Hedman - Rasmus Andersson

Jesper Bratt - Elias Pettersson - William Nylander
Gabriel Landeskog - Mika Zibanejad - Filip Forsberg
Viktor Arvidsson - Elias Lindholm - Andre Burakovsky
Joel Eriksson Ek - William Karlsson - Rickard Rakell

Its sad, but its time to admit that Bäckströms time is over.

Yea i think its accurate to say so they have third best roster overall after Canada and Usa atm clearly ahead of Finland and if Russia is counted i think Sweden is also stronger overall than them and after BIG 5 Czechs Sui etc are much weaker not comparable at all

This seems like a fair assessment of the current situation.

What makes you say that Sweden is clearly ahead of Finland?

Off topic, but this format of goalies first and forwards last hurt my brain a little bit

I think Sweden has the best defense. Ulmark and forwards are good enough to win it all in a short tournament. All would depend on coaching.

Too much offensive talent on the back end, not enough defensive talent. Too many soft forwards.

They would be fun to watch but doubt they would win a “best on best”

Forwards there's not much difference between Fin and Swe eventough i think Swe is bit ahead because of superior depth but forwards are comparable= like team's from same league kind of and goalie's are also same way, but Defense is difference between them its almost like average NHL D Core compared to average KHL/AHL defence because Swedish D are NHL ELite level and Finnish just NHL middletier.

Sweden has a new coach now, Sam Hallam. But if its something Sweden is famous for is having terrible coaches and IKEA. I would like us to have a coach from NA.

Perhaps then include Ekholm and Brodin in the backend.

Who are the soft forwards? I can only think of EP and Nylander.

Best on best tournament, you’d likely get a current NHL coach and not an international one.

I don’t often see Forsberg or Zibanejad as stronger players, but I also have limited viewing of them if we are being honest

Sweden does not do that. Even in best on best tournament we have swedish coaches. Always been like that and it sucks.

Forsberg and Z is not very strong, thats true, but they are not afraid to stick in their nose in the dirty areas.

Making changes in our D to get more defensive balance:

Dahlin - Ekholm
Brodin - Karlsson
Hedman - Lindholm

Why are people discussing NHL players on a NHL forum? Hmmm I wonder why that could be …..
Because it's not about the NHL players performing on NHL teams, it's about the national team they represent. But if you'd prefer to be obtuse, that's your prerogative.

This is a best on best of the active NHL players , not a best on best internationally.

It’s facts and has nothing to do with being obtuse

They're competitive, especially with that D. But while they've got great forward depth, they're missing some game-changers. Then again, the Swedes have never relied on that in their system.

That's because there are no better players playing outside of the NHL who represent Sweden. This isn't an Iron Curtain situation, or a Team Switzerland discussion where most of the roster isn't good enough to make it to the NHL.

Exactly, it’s an NHL discussion and not an international discussion
