Canes stupidly let Guentzel go in the offseason. f***.
Canes try to get stars to play here in the offseason. Nah.
Canes can't draft a game breaking star at the top of draft. f***.
Canes try to get Rant to stay here during the season. Nah.
Canes don't have stars so they have to shoot from everywhere. f***.

Boys we are so cooked. Canes in 5 though.

...honestly, I've been impressed with every Series so far; the hockey has been awesome and each Series has a bit of Narrative Drama to it...very few were looking forward to Canes-Devils, yet the hockey itself has been very entertaining...most thought Caps-Habs would be an epic beatdown, yet the games have been tight right down to the end...even Vegas-Minny has been, imo, a very entertaining chess match between two grinding, defensive-minded teams...I've been thoroughly impressed so far with the 2025 Playoffs...

EDM/LA has been pretty bad.

The Oilers just can't seem to hang with LA this year. Aside from a four point game from McDavid (I turned that game off and went to bed when it was 4-0, so I didn't even get to see his dominant stretch in that game), what's been worthwhile in that series from EDM's perspective?

Good argument against 1 to 8 seeding?

Maybe there is a method to Bettmans divisional playoff bracket madness.

The way I see it if the NHL is gonna keep this dumb format at least reseed it. So lets say TOR/WSH/FLA/CAR advance, the second round should be WSH/FLA and TOR/CAR, just ensures best teams are more likely to make the ECF

I assume you mean for second round?

Agreed, that makes sense.

And just to be clear I am not supporting or popping on the current format for playoffs - the comment about NBA being totally boring first round just made me think there may be some advantages to the nhl structure - given the negatives we are all aware of.

And agreed, a WSH/CAR ecf would be lit!!

CAR-NJ is not necessarily boring, but it is not competitive and it will be over quickly (4-5 games; NJ just doesn't have the juice without Jack Hughes.).

I feel the same way about Toronto-Ottawa. The result is not in any doubt, and isn't that a big part of this question? Ottawa is not a good playoff team and this is a bad series. NJ without J. Hughes is the same. It's a bad year for those who like to argue for an expanded playoffs or a play-in round. You could well argue that there aren't 16 good teams (though there's an argument for adding the Flames in place of one of the Eastern blehs).

II agree. Canes are soooo boring to watch with no superstars and their shoot anything and everything mentality. Its effective, but boring. Devils I havent been able to get into for 30+ years now.

Wild are similar for me, but at elast Knights are fun to watch.

Stars/Avs is a great series
LA/EDM is comedy
Panthers/Lightning is gold
Jets/Blues is pretty boring
TOR/OTT. Leafs are always fun to watch
Caps/MTL is boring but I enjoy cheering against all the insane Habs fans.
Huh? You think that anyone on VGK have been more entertaining than Kaprizov and Boldy? You don't think that Kaprizov is a superstar?

I expected the Florida series to be better. Lots of animosity, but not a lot of great hockey, and TBL hasn't really put up much of a fight.

That's an interesting take. They did play some boring hockey under Lemaire years ago

I drafted Kaprizov and Boldy in FH this season and hadn't really watched them before. Made me a big fan of both of them, and the Wild. Great team to watch right now.

Tampa-Florida could be another one considering the injury bug with Tampa. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Florida won in 5 games no less, there just a physically menacing team.

And I also feel like it should raise questions about Kucherov's playoff totals if they lose in epic fashion IMO. Does he truthfully have the ability to carry a team in the playoffs without the elite advantages of every other position? (Centre, D, Goalie)
Healthy Tampa still loses this series in 5 or 6.

You do realize that this isn’t the NBA and they’ve played the best team in the east the last two out of 3 years correct?

the whole league sort of sleeps on him, tbh.

I find it funny how the whole league sleeps on a guy who is tied for the 6th best scorer in the whole league for the past four years (PPG), on par with Matthews and Marner and better than guys like Panarin, Tkachuck, Rantanen, Crosby and Makar. If you think any of the names mentioned here is a superstar, then Kaprizov clearly is a superstar. And from what I can tell most of this time he hasn't even had the support the others have had.

Watching Stuart Skinner get exposed has been entertaining, maybe management will finally realize he's not "the guy".

Whatever happens in this series it won't be this year where the Devils get swept for the first time in their history.
