What about David Polie ? I guess he never went as bad as aome of these, though Dubas should be excluded, but he was a gm for a long ass time and has nothing to show for it.
Milbury
Chiarelli
Benning
From the list.
Somehow as soon as I saw the title of this thread I knew it was gonna be about Dubas and that he wound be part of this poll lol.
I don’t think Poile is nearly the worst GM of all time, but he’s certainly the most overrated GM of all time.
He was a GM for 40 straight years. The one year he was a GM for Nashville a year before they began play, so there was no hockey played by his team that year, but he’s been a GM every season since 82-83 through this season and he’s made the conference finals twice and the Stanley Cup Finals just once and no cup wins. If you really wanna grasp and reach then you can count when Washington made the finals the first year after he was done being the GM there with a team he mostly put together, but not a whole lot of success. That’s for sure.
And his two conference finals appearances were 27 years apart.
It was beyond controversial when I made posts like this around 2016 or 2017 or so. And then that year he finally makes the cup finals for the first time after 35 years.
At this point it seems much more acceptable to hold the opinion I have of him.
Kenny Holland is pretty nearly as overrated as he is. He inherited a stacked Detroit team from Devallano, that had just won the cup the year and before and went to the SCF two years before that. And then the team wins the cup for the second year in a row in his first year as GM.
I give him credit for the 2008 cup team though. Maybe somewhat the 2002 team, but there were a lot of carryovers from the cups a few years before, along with some added older vets like Hasek, Hull and Chelios.
So for that I don’t think he’s as overrated as Poile, but he’s not legendary either and I still think Edmonton will win the cup pretty soon, whether he’s still the GM there or not.
