What about David Polie ? I guess he never went as bad as aome of these, though Dubas should be excluded, but he was a gm for a long ass time and has nothing to show for it.

Milbury
Chiarelli
Benning

From the list.

I’m unsure if dubas should win this poll, and I’m as anti dubie as you get, but if the poll was which gm has inherited the most assets and underperformed the greatest dubas wins in a landslide..

Dubas has been mediocre if anything, hasn't taken the Leafs much forward nor damaged the team with his dealings either.

-OEL and Garland for one year of cap relief
-Juolevi
-Virtanen
-Eriksson x 6
-Beagle
-Sutter for Bonino and downgrading picks
-Sutter contract
-Mccann, top 35 pick and a 4th for Gudbranson and a 5th
-Tampering
-Clendenning for Forsling
-Ran out of time to sign Tanev
-Gudbranson contract
-Myers contract
-Etc

How in the hell is Ed Johnston not on this list? He is the unquestionable worst GM ever, he literally killed a team.

Somehow as soon as I saw the title of this thread I knew it was gonna be about Dubas and that he wound be part of this poll lol.

I don’t think Poile is nearly the worst GM of all time, but he’s certainly the most overrated GM of all time.

He was a GM for 40 straight years. The one year he was a GM for Nashville a year before they began play, so there was no hockey played by his team that year, but he’s been a GM every season since 82-83 through this season and he’s made the conference finals twice and the Stanley Cup Finals just once and no cup wins. If you really wanna grasp and reach then you can count when Washington made the finals the first year after he was done being the GM there with a team he mostly put together, but not a whole lot of success. That’s for sure.

And his two conference finals appearances were 27 years apart.

It was beyond controversial when I made posts like this around 2016 or 2017 or so. And then that year he finally makes the cup finals for the first time after 35 years.

At this point it seems much more acceptable to hold the opinion I have of him.

Kenny Holland is pretty nearly as overrated as he is. He inherited a stacked Detroit team from Devallano, that had just won the cup the year and before and went to the SCF two years before that. And then the team wins the cup for the second year in a row in his first year as GM.

I give him credit for the 2008 cup team though. Maybe somewhat the 2002 team, but there were a lot of carryovers from the cups a few years before, along with some added older vets like Hasek, Hull and Chelios.

So for that I don’t think he’s as overrated as Poile, but he’s not legendary either and I still think Edmonton will win the cup pretty soon, whether he’s still the GM there or not.

Another thread blaming Dubas for his core not stepping up. I really am enjoying reading the arm chair GM's and there ideas of how replacing Mathews and Marner would have made the Leafs a better team.

In my honest opinion the Leafs giving up on Kadri and subsequently signing Tavares was the biggest mistake.

It's incredibly easy to look back at Mathews and Marner and say, 1) They are overpaid 2) They are not playoff performers.

Based on there production in the regular season they are not overpaid, based on there playoffs well yeah duh that's where all of this is coming from. But this is why it's not them.

Every GM pays there star players to you know be star players. That's not Dubas fault. In what world are we that the Leafs don't have Marner and Mathews and are better for it. What GM isn't frothing at the mouth to sign young 20 year old ppg players.

Sure Maybe he overpaid them by a bit, the rest is revisionist bias. Does he deserve blame for the playoffs failure, yeah obviously he's the GM.

The biggest construction issue is the Tavares signing being a dud. Kadri was on a sweet heart contract, provided grit and blew your load signing pyjamas boy. Too many cooks in the kitchen, a signing that eliminates depth elsewhere.

Sure Matthews and Marner may be overpaid but show me 20 something ppgs across the league who aren't getting paid. The contract straight to ufa and 5 years was a mistake as well.

"Worst gm ever lol whatever"
Chia pet I'm Edmonton maybe Jim Benning recently, there have been worse than those as well.

Dubas is a silly answer and the fact they are in the playoffs at all shows he’s not the worst of all time.

The answer was that young guy in Arizona who had a giant ego.
