Well done, those empty seats will be filled now. :sarcasm:

I wonder which event will have less spectators the nhl cash cup 2016, or the world juniors 2017.

Montreal's per-game average is actually down by roughly 30%. So they did learn something.

However, Toronto's is up by the same amount.

Haha. Still 13,263 people showed up for Denmark-Switzerland game in Toronto. Not that great attendance in Montreal, but still something european nations can't even touch at their WJuniors, and it still is on par with the best attending WHCs in Europe.

Yet again failure on the part of Hockey Canada. Having been fortunate to been in Europe to these, it's incomparable atmosphere wise.

Every Hockey fan should experience a World Juniors/Worlds in Europe, watching Hockey in North America is pure boredom once your back.

Funny how it's actually way cheaper to fly to Helsinki and watch the World Juniors this year then it is to own the upscale packages.

Feel bad for the smalls towns across Canada, this shouldn't be hosted in Montreal and Toronto, it's the towns that give these players the limelight, they deserve to host these again instead of nhl cities.

Montreal will be empty again. And rightfully so. These are kids playing Hockey at the end of the day.

 Both these tournaments will have double the number of attendance per game than the WHC in russia.

Yet there'll be over 500 million accumulated viewers Worldwide, and probably way more watching. I wonder which tournament is more noteworthy. :thumbu:

The 2016 event won't even be watched apart from a handful in Canada, really good publicity they've got going lol.

Ya, I don't know about that. I just checked in on what the cost of a flight to Helsinki would be just in case the mood strikes me mid-December and I want to take in some of the action over the holidays. The cheapest flight I found was far more expensive than the most expensive ticket packages for the 2017 Mtl/Tor event. And given that I've been to Helsinki many times, and I know how expensive that city is and just how much it will cost to go there for up to 2 weeks to take in some hockey action, the better option, the more bang for my entertainment $$$ would be to wait for 2017. Plus, I've been to the World Juniors in Europe, it is nothing like you describe it. Absolutely nothing.

The WJC has better atmosphere in Europe? You're sure about that, despite the mostly empty arenas aside from when the home team is playing?

Why would anyone care about the ticket prices? A great number of people will still go.

Ya, I remember attending a few WJHC in Europe, Canada v others where there were 300-500 people in the stands. Not much of an atmosphere to be found. And I did attend a few games at the second venue in Halifax, non Canada games, crowd of around 5,000 and the atmosphere fantastic.

Having attended the Halifax and Buffalo WJCs (Buffalo essentially being proxy Canada) I know that the atmosphere was quite good, even when Canada wasn't playing. No doubt that Europe does a very good job with the WHC though. I do remember Saskatoon seemed to have bad crowds, but I don't think that was due to ticket prices.

ah yes! The infamous John Slaney blast from the point on the Dmitry Yushkevich failed clearing attempt. Classic. Anyway, we'll leave memory lane for another thread.

Do someone know if there will be Full-Event packages available for the Upper Bowl in MTL?

It's really a joke. They're ruining this tournament. You can go to Europe, sit by the glass for the whole tournament for the price of a couple of games here.

That is a damn shame, I'd actually spend that kind of coin in Europe because it makes sense.

I'll wait for single game tickets to become available...and pick my games accordingly. I went to a couple of Sweden games because I wanted to see Nylander.

$70 Canadian to watch the Gold Medal game this year.

Preliminary round at the Olympics in Sochi were cheaper to watch then World Juniors in Canada.

There's a reason no one travels to Canada to watch Hockey and Canadians come out in force in every international event abroad lol.

This tournament will fail in Montreal, just like the cash grab exhibition cup being held in September 2016 in Toronto will fail.

Thanks for posting this, still rather expensive to go and watch these games at the arena when you can watch them at home for free.

Yes, the reason is that Canada has far more hockey fans than other countries do. Hence why Canadians fill events in Canada and then continue to attend them abroad.

Perhaps, atmosphere is a subjective thing and people like to view things in different ways.

Funny how it's actually way cheaper to fly to Helsinki and watch the World Juniors this year then it is to own the upscale packages.

do seats now come with beds?

Hardly cheaper, it's the supply and demand thing here again for the price of seats.

What small towns are you talking about here?

Doubt many could support a tournament of this size, unless they were a suburb of one of the large center.

Montreal will be empty again. And rightfully so. These are kids playing Hockey at the end of the day.

Montreal is a crappy sports town just like Vancouver, they are NHL towns first and foremost.

The World cup in Toronto will hardly fail but you know this how exactly?

There is a strong enough market for them to make plenty more money in Canada than anywhere else in the world, why would they not take advantage of this?

The attendance figures from 2015 would also suggest the absolute opposite to what you have said in this post..

edit: and the reason no one travels to Canada to watch...hockey...during the Christmas holiday season....

Tournaments in canada have best atmospher to wach

Both comments are so true.

I still prefer Euro cheerleaders ... but that is another affair ;-)
