*sigh* It's a minor gripe, but I wish people would learn to spell the nationality right. It's "Finns", with two Ns.

Finland has Finns. It's fishes, sharks and whales that have fins.

My bad man, thanks for letting me know!

On the other hand, thank you for posting this.

The team looks pretty solid, but will the defense be good enough to get the team to the gold medal game? Will the goalies be able to handle the pressure?

Looking forward to the tournie starting!

Another interesting topic that comes to mind is how the power play units will end up.

Overall looks good! :yo:

Gold: Sweden
Silver: Finland
Bronze: Canada
4th: USA
5th: Russia

Sweden looks stacked, Finland too, Canada weaker on paper than some squads that didn't medal, USA decent, Russia decent.

If we're simply going by paper, the US is stacked. I think that's a consensus among HF. It's their track record for dissapointment (US in general ) that's tempering some people's expectations.

Canada had a fourth place finish ( during a lockout year no less :amazed:) BUT prior to that, Edit: something like 13 medals in a row. In 2010, they lost in OT to Yanks in the GMG, having played in Gold medal final a whopping 10 years in a row, also reaching a high water mark of 5 straight golds ( and not for the first time either )

My point ( albeit somewhat understated before correction ) is that for Canada not to win a medal of any color, historically, is far from the norm...

2016 WJC Preview: Survival the key for Team Slovakia after unexpected bronze last win

</p>As Slovakia prepares for the 2016 World Junior Championship that begins Saturday in Helsinki, Finland, it has become more and more clear that their tournament is all about survival. Let it be clear that there are no Martin Reways, Marko Danos, or Denis Godlas on this team. New heroes will have to be found and then they will have to perform consistently.

Fortunately for Slovakia, the team can spend the preliminary round not having to worry about Canada, Sweden or the USA, who are all entering the tournament as nominal favorites and feature at least one forward of superstar quality.… read more

Yes that's why they get the bronze. Prior to last year they were 4th, 4th, 3rd and those were all better teams. Expect the majority to be "Canada will win because Canada and who are half these European players". But it's not every poster so that's a pleasant surprise.

Matthews impact is overrated. He's going to be about a ppg much like Eichel was. Great for a young 18 year old, but not worldbeating. Rest of US on paper is whining about who didn't get invited.

Canada's top players (eligible) outside of Point and Sanheim are 2015 draftees/97s.

Finland has a pretty good team. That's probably good enough to beat this version of Team Canada.
