I reallly respect how Wedgewood has handled this whole situation. He’s tabbed to be a backup but he’s calmed the storm that had been in net and raised the bar considerably. It was a good sign when he made his first appearance in the Buffalo game. Georgiev was a train wreck once again (3 goals on the first 4 shots), Wedgewood entered and went 22 for 22 allowing the team to pull victory from the jaws of defeat. Feel free to come up with examples to the contrary but if memory serves, neither Georgiev or Annunen have been particularly good at coming in in relief. So that was immediately cause for optimism. And through this, Wedgewood has had several starts for the smalll period of time and has provided stability.

It’s not simply a matter of allowing three goals. When you let them in matters. Letting in at least 1 goal in the first 10 shots puts the team behind the 8 ball where they have to chase the game. They’re playing uphill. It doesn’t really matter if you do that but eventually find your game and only give up three goals total.

Now when Blackwood arrives, Wedgewood has already raised the bar. I’m glad Wedgewood has had this interim window of time to establish himself and ingratiate himself to the team.

I’m typically more of a pessimist. And I don’t want to jinx anything. But it certainly feels that the Avs are about to go on a run.

Hey, it was 4 goals on 8 shots.

Give Georgiev some credit, he got to .500.

There’s nothing Georgie could’ve done.

BTW, what's up with Sid the Kid? He had a horrible game last night and apparently is in the midst of a pretty substantial scoring slump. Geno was far more visible.

Pens defenders were getting victimized last night. I don't think there was a single guy on their blueline who didn't get walked at least once.

Losing Marino and Dumoulin and replacing them with Graves and Karlsson tanked their team's ability to actually play D. They basically have Pettersson and that's about it.

That Marino for Smith deal will never make any sense to me. Then again throwing all that money at Graves didn’t make any sense either.

Is Dumoulin still good though? I got the sense they bailed on him because he was on the decline.

Say what you will about Nichushkin -and there is a ton to say. The history is there, it's documented and it speaks for itself.

What also speaks for itself is the guys talent - Nuke is a straight-up beast. Yeah, I was on the "dump the guy and move on" train. Most of us were. But you watch the guy play and you look at his price tag . . . well, I'm glad we didn't find a way to get rid of him. Yeah, he's a risk. A pretty big one given his track record. But the reward - if he really is cleaned up - is off the charts.

All trades and acquisitions are risks. And once again, we have "re-acquired" Nuke. But from my chair, the risk is worth taking.

Again.

He's pretty cooked now, but at the time he was very solid

I know I’m probably in the minority, but I liked Stienburg.

For a pure 4th line role, that guy skated hard the entire shift, hit everything that moved and was a disrupter. Good skater, good size, plays the body and wasn’t a visible weakness defensively.

I don’t care about his suspension either, in fact I like that shit. Opponents need to keep their head up around him and will hear those footsteps on the forecheck.
I don't dont think he's played since being sent down or has he. Did he get hurt ?

I like him too we need some of that

I believe he actually did miss some time in the AHL due to injury. But he’s playing now.

I think we’ll see him back in the lineup soon but of course he has a suspension to serve before he can play.

great win.

And...

No penalty on Malkin for trying to kill Wedgewood? And no requisite retribution from the Avs? Middleton or Smith should have dropped the gloves with him, or at least taken a good run at him. Little bitch.
I don’t think it was intentional. I think Malkin was just trying to skate by and accidentally got Wedgewood’s head. I could be wrong but that’s what it looked like to me

And he did apologize straight after and again later. Atleast he looked being worried and sorry for it

At what point we become just fools believing this risk? This is definitely the last chance. Then he should be out of the team. 100%.

He should have been after the last playoffs in all honesty.

I know for a fact that MacSakic tried to dump Nuke's contract last summer but was told by the NHL/NHLPA/Nukes lawyers across the board that that wasn't possible. So here we are. Might be a blessing in disguise.

I dunno. Are MacSakic fools for continuing to buy into a Landeskog return? Maybe. Every GM in the league takes chances. If they deal Nuke now, what's the return? A bag of pucks and an AHL guy for a player who - when clean - is one of the best power forwards in the league? I think the Avs are going to hold on the Nuke until the TDL. No reason not to.

And then they'll roll the dice again. Just a question of which way they'll throw them.
