This is the prequel of my other similarly-named post. The 1915-16 season was the first season of the "Eastern Ladies Hockey League" (ELHL) consisting of four teams based in Montreal, originally established by Len Porteous to fill time at the Jubilee Rink. It was also the first season of the Ottawa Alerts and Westboro Pets, as well as the season where Albertine Lapensee burst onto the scene as a 17-year old superstar.
Unfortunately, newspaper coverage of this season was somewhat spottier than in the following season.
This will be divided into five parts: the ELHL, the Doran Cup challenge games, the Exhibition Cup challenge games, exhibition games, and games between the best three teams of 1915-16 (the Cornwall Victorias, Ottawa Alerts, and Montreal Westerns).

Notes:
From newspaper reports, much of the Montreal Westerns' low goals against was due to the "stonewall defence" provided by point D. Arnold and cover point Isabel Gallagher. Interestingly, the Montreal Westerns rotated through a large number of goalies (including one game where D. Arnold played goalie instead of point) before settling on Corinne Hardman for the final half of the season. Even this wouldn't stick, since the Westerns would later switch over to Lulu Hart for their post-season games.

The Exhibition Cup was initially to be rewarded to the winner of a three-game series played between the 1st-place Westerns and 3rd-place Telegraphs... because reasons. To the Telegraphs' credit, they put up the best performances of their season in those three games. All three games ended in a draw, including game 3, which had an additional overtime period played.
Afterward, Len Porteous decided to award the Exhibition Cup to the winner of an upcoming home-and-home series between the Cornwall Victorias and an "all-star Montreal team", which ended up just being the Westerns. The Westerns lost 2-0 in Cornwall, and then there was no more coverage of ladies' hockey of the 1915-16 season. Given the ice conditions at the time, it is possible that it was cancelled.

Notes:
In what seems to be a forgotten piece of trivia, Albertine Lapensee played one exhibition game for the upstart Ottawa-region Hull Vestas against the Ottawa All-Stars. According to newspaper reports around that time, a few Ottawa-region teams were trying to lure Lapensee from Cornwall. The report from The Montreal Daily Mail suggested that Cornwall tried to "detain" Lapensee, with the train from Cornwall to Ottawa leaving 3 hours late on game day. The same report noted that the packed crowd was getting unruly without Lapnesee's appearance. Lapensee showed up half-way through the game, received a standing ovation, and then proceeded to score 4 goals for the Vestas.
Due to spotty reporting in the primary sources that I could find, 20 out of 36 goals scored by the Cornwall Victorias are unaccounted for. While Lapensee undoubtedly accounts for the majority of those 20 unaccounted goals, 5 could not have been scored by Lapensee. She scored 13 of 18 goals by Cornwall against the Ottawa All-Stars. A good chunk (perhaps even all) of those 5 goals were scored by W. Oram, the winger for the Montreal Westerns who joined Cornwall on their exhibition series against the Ottawa All-Stars. Aside from Lapensee, Oram was singled out for her excellent performance in the games.
There is an interesting observation in the February 24, 1916 edition of the Ottawa Journal (obtained from here), which covered the exhbition game between the February 23rd match between the Montreal Champetres and Ottawa Alerts:
The Ottawa players emulated Frank Nighbor's defensive stick work in their game against the Champetres. While hockey games weren't televised, locals could still go to an arena and watch their local NHA team and learn from that.
The Top 3 Teams Against Each Other

Notes:
Against strong competition, Albertine Lapensee slightly more than doubles up her next closest opponent, Edith Anderson, in goals per game (3.33 versus 1.50). This is consistent with the 1916-17 season.
Here is my personal First All-Star Team:
Goalie: Lulu Hart (Maisonneuve/Montreal Westerns)
Point: D. Arnold (Montreal Westerns)
Cover Point: Isabel Gallagher (Montreal Westerns)
Forward: Albertine Lapensee (Cornwall Victorias)
Forward: Edith Anderson (Ottawa Alerts)
Forward: Agnes Vautier (Montreal Westerns)
Here is my personal Second All-Star Team:
Goalie: M. Hardman (Montreal Telegraphs)
Point: E. Doloro (Maisonneuve)
Cover Point: H. Dorval (Maisonneuve)
Forward: W. Oram (Montreal Westerns)
Forward: Jean Hodge (Cornwall Victorias)
Forward: Ada McDonald (Cornwall Victorias)
Any feedback, additions, and corrections are welcome!
EDIT (February 20, 2024): Thanks to a free promo for Newspapers.com over the long weekend, I was able to fill in some blanks with regards to the game logs and scoring records. A few exhibition games were also added, including the infamous game where Albertine Lapensee scored 15 goals.

Notes:
Against strong competition, Albertine Lapensee slightly more than doubles up her next closest opponent, Edith Anderson, in goals per game (3.33 versus 1.50). This is consistent with the 1916-17 season.

EDIT (February 20, 2024): Thanks to a free promo for Newspapers.com over the long weekend, I was able to fill in some blanks with regards to the game logs and scoring records. A few exhibition games were also added, including the infamous game where Albertine Lapensee scored 15 goals.
