1st period was a wash.
2nd was mostly Canada.
3rd was mostly US.

OT was all US.

Yes that's true. The guy making the ice in Salt Lake City was Canadian so he left a loonie under centre ice for good luck. That loonie is now (or at least at one point was) in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Go look at the rosters on elite prospects. Notice a difference?

Most of the women play AMHL for Canada, meanwhile the US girls mostly have club or college teams that they play for all year. Big advantage.

Most of the top Canadian players also play college hockey in the U.S.

USA deserved that one for sure. Canadian coach is actually brutal, and Canada was so much slower than the Americans it was laughable. They tried the same thing going up the boards on the right side probably 6-7 times during OT and it didn't work every time.

They really need to re-think their staffing and player selection. Maybe get a coach who actually has some high level/international coaching experience or even somewhat a winning record would be nice. You cant tell me she was the best option. Her coaching stats are actually awful. And they need to get some young players with speed on that team. Nurse made 2 great rushes in OT on the 2 shifts she got and then just wasn't played. It was gross watching them slug around the ice while the US skated circles around them.

Canada will definitely have to retool and get younger as well.

I mean, that's what I do to Capitals' players every post-season and it seems to be working just fine.

I honestly couldn't believe how much better the USA side was than the Canadian side. They were fast and disciplined. They also played with a lot more urgency and really looked hungry for gold.

Canada had no structure to their game at all.

Offense was one-and-done. No creativity and no real support. Just a bunch of one-on-one battles that went the Americans way.

The defense flubbed so many passes in their own zone while trying to pass it through the middle. The MIDDLE. That's something you get coached out of in peewee.

It also looked like they were skating through quick-sand the whole game. I've never seen such an immobile defensive core and I've had to watch the Avalanche through the years with guys like Zanon and Beauchemin.

They took some dumb ass penalties as well. Some were weak calls, but others were clear as day and dumb to take. Then add in they took many of them in the offensive zone which is inexcuseable.

Goalie was the only player who I didn't cringe at while watching. She kept Canada in it.
