Only one person can be blamed. Canada’s coach.
Watch the 4 on 4. The Canadian defence never press forward. They always hang back or change. We always either dump the puck in and change or try to rush with one girl. That’s what you do when you’re on the pk, 5v4 up by a goal. They were dropping back on defence. Never pressing and just allowing the Americans to change. That’s how you kill a penalty. And it’s not just being tired. This was from puck drop.
America was pressing. Not letting the Canadian defence take their time with the puck to allow us to change. Always had one defenceman joining the rush so it wasn’t just one or two trying to go through the whole team. More agressive on defence. That’s how you play 4v4.
The Americans had practiced this and were ready to play.
The Canadians had not practiced this so just played the only way they know how when they only have 4 skaters. Penalty kill.
That’s the difference. Canada’s coach had not practiced for this situation which, when you think about how close the two teams are, is really not a shock that it ended up in OT.
