Because it was offside by a :eek::eek::eek: hair and had no impact on the actual goal itself. Sometimes taking rules to the extreme makes a game worse.
Off-side is off-side. Black and white. Always has been. Most off-side calls have nothing to do with the play. Now we have the technology to confirm it. Great call from the video team.

Edit: Imagine the number that go uncalled and unreviewed because no goal is scored!

Its very simple. If no official can tell in real time as the play is happening if a player is offside or not, then it probably means they were close enough to the redline that they were onside. If there's a offside challenge and you replay the video at normal speed and you can't easily see that player being offside, then they're considered onside.

If a player is actually offside then you should be able to easily see it at normal speed just like the officials call players offside many times per game without any video replay required to see if that player is offside or not. Any offside review that requires you to slow down the video to frame by frame to tell if a player is offside or not means they're not offside.
That’s not the worst idea, but then it becomes a call similar to goaltender interference here we won’t actually know what offside is and it’ll be a ref to ref decision

Are you new to hockey…….with all due respect

Then you have soften up every other rule and then it will be a worse gong show

I find it hilarious that there are still people who somehow think this leaf team is different and going to make it further in the playoffs this year. If they do, it would because of incredible goaltending. Like how Hasek lead Buffalo back in the day. Berube has made them marginally play better defensively and offensively much worse. That said, it’s not a Berube problem. This group will always struggle when other teams push and take away time and space. Anyway we won…yayy…I guess

Except human error is at play. There have been some pretty egrigeous off-sides not called.
Regardless, it's in the rule book. Everything was done above board AND it helped the Leafs secure a win.

I thought they were, earlier in the season. I see clearly now it was the goaltending.
It's the core, always has been. Always will be as long as they are together.
Begging them to prove me so so wrong.

Over the moon they won! Against a Canadian rival, on the road, after losing three in a row.
Hopefully they can feed off that in Cowtown on Tuesday.

They would have to change the rules in order for tgat to be possibles. Rules are set, rules have to followed whether we like them or not.

I’d like to see them change the offside rule to include the puck breaking the plane, like in football, and if the the defending team has possession of the puck then no off side challenge

If it was a playoff game I’d be mad at the rule if I was Edmonton, but it’s Feb 1 and one team looks like it’s poised to go on a another playoff run and one plays their home games in the eastern time zone.

I don't think you can be mad at a rule being called as designed. Disappointed, sure.
The Oilers did not sulk. They Got right back at it. That eastern conference team you referenced is so different from the Oilers.
