Sudbury Wolves defenceman Charlie Dodero has signed a professional contract with the New York Rangers' organization.

The Chicago native joins fellow Wolves' graduate Michael Kantor who also signed a professional contract with the New York Rangers in April.

The Wolves' graduates are expected to start the season in Connecticut, the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers.

Dodero, 21, was acquired by the Wolves in a trade with the Kitchener Rangers in 2010. The free agent proceeded to work his way into a top defenceman role with the Wolves on the strength of his fluid skating, offensive skills and open-ice hits.

The Whale had signed Dodero to a try-out in April

Dodero was also at prospects camp in early July

Rangers love signing defensemen, eh?

There was a pretty large hole in the organizational depth chart after McIlrath and Skjei. Now with Hughes, Allen, Dodero and with Noreau taking a step to the pros they look a bit better. Donnay will go back to juniors and should probably stay there for another 2 years.

If you remember the last time the Rangers got a Sudbury defenseman, you'll be excited.

Daniel Maggio.

like this signing. all of a sudden we have a lot of organizational depth on D.

McIlrath
Syvret
Noreau
Hughes
Allen
Bickel
Dodero

That's 4 first year pros and McIlrath who missed the first 3 months of his first year pro.

1 or 2 of the first year pros could see time in the ECHL.

Donnay still has junior eligibility. He is 19.

Aaron Johnson. $600,000 one-way. He had a two-way last season. $600,000/$105,000 which was the re-entry waivers number. The Rangers need his experience in the AHL. He receives the same money playing in either league and there is no worry about being stuck with 1/2 the cap hit in re-entry anymore. The Pack will have a very young blue line. The Rangers aren't signing another D for the AHL. They will have 1 SPC left after Stepan.

With Parlett, Klassen, and Niemi moving on, the Ranks need to be filled in Hartford.

In names only. They have depth on D like the Russians had depth during WWI.

You take the rifle, you take the ammo, now both of you go!

Sorry we're outta guns and ammo so here's a pitchfork, now go and hopefully you can get a gun off a German. If you try running away we'll shoot you with the bullets we can't give you.
