This year, Slovakia will have pretty interesting team, probably the strongest for last few years. So I think, this team deserves attention and there is some real chance to be a dark horse of the tournament. The roster could be something like this:

Hrenák
Kožiak
Sklenár

Fehervary,
Bodak
Zelenák
Dlapka
Ivan
Trnavský
Kmec

Buček
Studenič
Solenský
Ružička
Hrehorčák
Lacka
Čacho
KrivošÃk
Smolka
Bjalončík
Galbavy
Vybiral
Roman

And there are the other ones like Krempasky, Svarc, Liska, Marcinek or Tamasi who can be on roster, but this one is mine. Also, there is an interesting name Phillip Knies . Anybody know him? He is in our U-18 camp too.
So we will see...

How would you rate the team? Strong/weak defense... etc.
Forward group looks pretty good.

Even defence looks above average in our conditions. Fehervary with Bodak are productive duo with the point per game average. Fehervary is speedy, puck moving defender and Bodak is righthanded, more stay at home in this case. There´s a great cooperate between these two - pure defence pair no. 1.
Zelenák is also important part. He ´s big and strong and actually, productive, he made 6 points (2+4) from the international games in november and february. Michal Ivan is the youngest debutante in Slovak League (15 years and 10 mounths), he played 14 games for Zvolen in this season a he lookes fine, but needs to get stronger. Kmec was little disappointment in last international games and his club stats are not very impressive too, has problems with passing but in Hlinka Memorial, he was one of the our best defenders and he was trying very hard.

Still we have U - 18 project, is playing in U - 20 league. But it ´s uselessness, there ´s really only few names, which can complete the roster, the best players are playing outside.

This team will be young. There are many late 98´s and 99´s.

Don't understand this hype. I wouldn't say this team is stronger than last year. Basically, 99 group should be stronger than usual, so the peak of U18 will come next year. 98 is maybe not even average birthyear.

You know, after all this poor years ... Dont break their dreams. ;)

I just noticed Milos Roman is one of the better player under 18 in the u-20...Pretty impressive considering he is only eligible in 2018. Is he a sure 1st rounder?

No one can be a sure 1st rounder for a draft that's two years away. That being said, he projects to be one. Probably the most talented player on this prediction roster.

According to the Eastside hockey manager - yes, he is a 1th round player.
He is a special player. Talent at least of Richard Panik in his age.

Hope you are not being serious here  EHM is a video game.

I am looking forward to see him actually play at the WJC U18, but it is very early to say he is a sure fire 1st rounder. I wouldn't say someone like Filip Zadina, who has similiar stats to what Zacha had at that age, is a sure fire 1st rounder either. It's too unpredictable.

Darkhorse is a great way to put this team that has a lot of very likable individual talents who come with youth.

Zelenak and Solensky have really stepped up in the second half of the season. Bodak will also be looked upon to lead from defense.

Ruzicka has everything you want in a prospect and can take over games, Studenic is super skilled with the puck, and Bucek has a chance to show he has been developing fine with USHL.

Smolka is a favorite of mine who I am following closely to see how much better he can get as he isn't as hyped as the rest.

Yeah. Forgot the emoticon. Milos Roman has also one advantage. He is a late 1999 (born in november). That can be also crucial.
I read few years ago on Hokejportal, about some tournament in Canada. And the guy, who saw him on action, said, he was something special. Also the people from Canada were hyped.

4:3 win vs Russia in pre-tournament game. Nice.

Good result, though the Russian team is basically their U-17 team due to the scandal where everyone got replaced in the team. So not a full strength team but good result nonetheless

Let's see the next match. If they can confirm this good performance vs. SUI, we can be cautiously optimistic

Hrenak did not finish the game due to collision with a russian player. If he is hurt, I wouldn't be optimistic at all.

Slovakia U18 - Switzerland U18 7:3 (4:0, 0:2, 3:1)

Goals: S. Solensky 2, Marcinek, J. Lacka, R. Vaclav, S. Bucek, A. Liska – Riva, Eggenberger, Loosli

After this result, I would be willing to take a bet that our U18 team is going to do better than the men's team. My cheeky prediction: Men 8th, U18s 4th (beating czechs along the way and getting a worse team in the playoffs)

I think you are being a bit too optimistic

In both cases :shakehead I watched last men games against Finland and Russia and no way that team can be 8th. I believe 4th at U18 is more probable

99 group should be better. They beat USA U17 this season. But they have some strange results. For example they lost two games against Hungary 18 recently :thumbd:

That's why I said I was being cheeky :)

Anyways - anyone watch the match against DEN? Apparently SVK dominated for the most part, but what happened to Hrenak? Anyone know much about his - its not common for a total breakdown like he had, was it just psyche?

Well Hrenak wasn't a starter vs. Finland. Durny did OK but I guess without a class goalie our chances are much slimmer than I thought for a surprise finish. Guessing we can still have a chance vs. the Czechs but doubt we'll get past the 1/4 final

Problem is, we cant see the full game. Ok, we can, but how many of you paid for the stream?
And fro the highlights we cant judge the goalies. You say "Durny did OK". Did you saw the game? or it is only from statistic?

Didn't see the whole game, just going by the stats, 4 goals on 32 shots vs. Finns at the international level is not a blowout and decent, but not good enough at this level I'd say.
