I haven't seen Grans play much. I have mostly been pumping his tires on name alone.
I saw a few Reign games last year. He looks really good in this game so far

He was, and still kind of is, pretty raw defensively. All the tools are there, he can be a beast, and he's very good offensively and with the puck, he's just still clearly learning the NA/small rink game and how to use his teammates/systems and that will make sure that he's good enough to supersede his average defensive instincts.

Grans played forward until 14/15 if memory serves....thus the project label. Could be a diamond in the rough with experience and tutelage.

Can't believe Pinelli and Clarke aren't on the Team Canada roster. Wonder if they just passed and will play in December

Even forgetting Clarke, what really stuck out tonight in that Canada/Latvia game was all those left shot defensemen is going to bite them in the ass. There were a lot of plays of defensemen receiving a pass on their backhand on the right side and panicking because they didn't have enough time to stickhandle. This often lead to unnecessary dump-ins when there were passes that could have been made if that was a defenseman taking the pass on his forehand.

Pretty good. Good news...The US plays Sweden at 7 tonight.

Simontaival is having another exceptional WJC's. I mean he got jobbed by the officials twice so far by not giving him an assist on Sammi H's goal. I mean he was the primary assist on the play and he got snubbed there and they took a goal from him and then didn't give him an apple when he was the guy who made the shot on net. They will straighten it out after the tourney but he as been dynamite so far every game. Sure he is older than several of the kids on his team but he had a great tourney last season so I don't think it really matters.

Grans has looked good to even exceptional at times.

Regarding SammiH, I guess it depends on what you want from his game when it comes to how well he has done so far. I think he has been a defensive presence out there every shift. He skates with the best players on the ice with ease and he likes to use his gigantic body as a weapon as much as possible.

Any offense he provides is really just an added bonus. He is a disrupter in every zone and to me that is one of the things that we are missing on the big club.

Helenius does seem like the type whose game will translate better to the NHL style than these type of tourneys. Hammer, lunch pail type of guy. Being so big too, he's a crock pot development guy rather than an immediate frying pan.
