Speculation: With Copp out for the season and Husso traded. Wings got $14m in cap space. What should Yzerman and co do with it?

As long as he does something this time around. Still furious he didn’t do a single thing last deadline, even if it’s not a big splash.

To Det
LD/RD Connor Murphy (50% retained)
Ryan Danato (39 points this season)

To Chi
Justin Holl
Det 1st

Both players would probably happy to extend in Det.

Detroit doesn’t need retention help, they have plenty of cap this year and next. Donato would be a pure rental as the Wings don’t need another 3C. Connor Murphy would be fine as our 3RD for this year and next (depending on whether ASP is NHL ready or needs a year in the AHL). But being 33 at the end of his contract, he wouldn’t be re-signed either. So a first for essentially a couple low end rentals is a bit to steep. Remove the retention from Chicago, change the 1st to a 2nd and we can even throw in a B prospect.

They have a deep prospect pool, a lot of cap space and all their draft picks, If SY doesn’t do anything It will be looked at as a failure. Larkin and the boys deserve a boost.

ideal world- Rantanen, Byram, Boeser, or maybe even EP40 - someone who’s young enough to be a core player not a pure rental

Likely scenario - smaller upgrades a guy like Justin Faulk, Luke schenn, McCann, Matheson

wings should do vegas things. seth jones & zibenajad. then ltir copp and go after kadri & nurse. trade for shea weber, then ltir him to add boeser.
