Doubtful you find a P/K to replace him. Canadian at that for two positions. Bombers made a big mistake with Hirim a few years ago before they brought in Medlock.

Lirim*

And to be fair they moved straight on from Hajrullahu to Medlock. There's no Medlock out there this time, and even if there was Bombers could no longer afford it. Liegghio will be the K/P again next year, fans will get over it.

I was questioning the spelling but didn't look it up lol.

I’m sure there will be some kickers in camp. It’s Liegghio’s job to lose, but I don’t think he has it locked up

Hopefully not. He is currently this teams weakest link by a country kilometre.

You should look around the league and then check out the NFL, kickers aren't exactly lighting it up anywhere. Ppl always pretend every off season there's some super kicker who never misses out there but... that kicker don't exist

I'd imagine they bring in another guy or 2 (globals or Canadian) to compete tho. Best Man wins.

Still blaming kickers when the O couldn't move the ball for 3 quarters is insane

Leggs is still one of the worst in the league. Missed the most point after attempts. 2nd lowest field goal percentage in the league. And the Bombers attempted fewer long field goals than most if not all other teams due to Leggs' suspect accuracy and weak leg. Oh and while I'm at it, he is mediocre at kickoffs too.

Please Walters bring in a legit challenger for kicking and/or punting duties. Not some loser like Mourtado where it will be preordained in camp that Leggs will keep his position.

I'm glad we had Castillo to make those critical point after attempts and field goals in windy Tim Hortons field back in 2021. Who here actually thinks Legs make all those critical kicks to help us win the Grey Cup...anyone?

I mean I'm not here to blindly defend Liegghio, he clearly has alot of work to do to have a long CFL career (at least as a kicker) but at least be accurate with your facts here.

1. Missed the most point after attempts
Also attempted the most...His percentage was 91.1%. Which fair ranked him 8th of 10 ahead of Castillo and Domagala. But within 1 percentage point of Lauther, Bede, and Ward. So no real difference there, about middle of the pack here.
2. 2nd lowest field goal percentage in the league.
Just objectively wrong. He ranked 7th of 10. For sure needs improvement, but not this terribly drastically, one more made kick would have put him past...Sergio Castillo.
3. And the Bombers attempted fewer long field goals than most if not all other teams due to Leggs' suspect accuracy and weak leg
Numbers for this are hard to find. But hey only 3 kickers in the league had a longer field goal than Liegghio last year. Small, Lauther and Bede. Notably 2 of those 3 finished below Liegghio in FG%. This is 100% one of those things that fans of their own team notices alot more than you notice of other teams. I bet Derek Taylor has some good stats on this, I should inquire...
4. Oh and while I'm at it, he is mediocre at kickoffs too
A problem I was thinking as well. However the numbers don't bear this out. Of kickers that regularly took kickoffs (as in more than 10 kickoffs last year) he ranked 5th out of 10 with a 63.9 yard average. Not really that bad.

No one is saying he was some kind of superstar kicker last year. He was solidly below average. But considering his age, pedigree and signs of improvement it's premature to completely give up on him. Whyte (37), Parades (37), Castillo (32), Lauther (32), Liegghio (25), Small (23), Bede (33), Ward (30), and Cote (26) were the ages of the kickers in the league last year. There's every expectation that there is still alot of room for growth in Liegghio's game.

Liegghio is an all-star level punter though. He'll retain those duties no matter what. He has great ball placement on his punts and he doesn't really sacrifice distance for it with a ranking of 5th out of 9 in average distance on punts.

IDK why we need to be content with Liegghio when he's not that good and cost us last year
It's the only main position where we don't have a high-end player so might as well hope to improve it

The problem with Legghio is not-so-much that he's a below-average, but not terrible, kicker. The problem is he has demostrated on a few different occasions now that he can't perform under pressure, and for a team with championship aspirations, that's just not gonna work.

You've nailed it! If the Bombers starting QB were "below average" and "can't perform under pressure", would management keep giving him chance after chance after chance or would they be actively trying to improve at that position? Like goaltenders in hockey, I realize that kickers are "voodoo" but I'm hoping that Walters et al. are planning on bringing some serious competition at the position.

There are real concerns the team could fold prior to the season. Whispers right now, but that could change to a full-blown roar. CFL teams will likely not bail them out again.

This just a Montreal fan run podcast account, but they were posting a lot of stuff over the past couple days about the league/ownership so it may be related.

He wouldn't be the first player to work through issues about missing kicks at key times. Alot of young kickers struggle in key situations as newer players and improve as they age.

I'm just not sure the Bombers can afford to sink 175-200K into a kicker anymore like they could when they were still building the team with Medlock. For sure the Bombers will bring in competition. But outside of Lirim Hajrullahu, who would likely cost in that range, there's just no veteran options to be brought in. It's questionable whether they will have even an American roster spot available for a kicker. So we are talking about rookie/young Canadians and Globals. Is there anyone out there that can improve the position? I'm sure they will try, but it's not that easy to find a better kicker on a budget and limited to only certain nationalities. But I'm sure they'll try.

Andrew Harris playing another year in TO. Last time he managed more than 7 games in a regular season no one had heard of COVID. Good luck with that TO.

Not knowing when to call it quits is kind of in Andrew’s DNA.

I’ll always appreciate him for coming here and helping end the drought, but he threw a tantrum when the Bombers tried to ask him to take on a reduced role (which made sense given we have two other Canadian RBs). Also, I still think his “miraculous” recovery from the torn pectoral muscle in time for the playoffs last year was a bit sus, but I’m no doctor.

I’m also happy to see Couture sign in BC. Jeremy O’Day being a shitty GM and not finding any suitable offensive linemen to help out his generationally awful O-line in Saskatchewan is an amazing gift that keeps on giving.

Read from Ed Tait on the Bombers website that the team is still deep in talks with Bailey about an extension. I can’t see any room for him now but maybe in the off-chance (knock on wood) that Schoen signs in the NFL today or tomorrow then they will retain Bailey.

Would also be nice to get Prukop back but if that’s not in the cards then they could target a guy like Pipkin to play that role.

More important signing that it seems. Gives them huge depth at Global with DE Thiadric Hansen hopefully healthy by TC then you have Maruo who has worked himself up from PR in mid 21 to holding a depth role on ST to start 22 to starting to see time as a rotational guy on D in late 22. You are only required 1 Global, but when healthy the Bombers were regularly dressing 2 Globals in Hansen and Maruo. They also have huge mauler guard in OL Tomoya Machino who's been hanging around the PR for two years now along with limited action as they've been coaching up the physically impressive man who had no technique when he arrived. Several teams still can't find a single Global to use and Bombers have at least 3 they can use.
