He certainly has the character and drive this regime loves. Crazy football family Genes. A whopping 4 immediate family members playing pro ball.
Whatever he lacks in size hopefully makes up in possessing the tools to create havoc in the back field.

ST'er it is
10. Jake Kelly, Bishop’s University (Markham, Ont.)

Kelly flashes athletically with elite testing numbers to back it up but he tends to turn it on and off, failing to dominate against low-level competition. He lacks ideal size at five-foot-11 and 182 pounds and isn’t nearly as physical as you’d like for a safety, opting for sloppy shoulder check tackles late rather than sticking his nose into contact.

Yup a guy who will play ST well right away. Bombers love this type. A prospect with starting some upside at S. Will lead to a really crowded S position again as the Bombers like with both Hallett brothers back behind Alexander.

4. Jeremy Murphy, Concordia University (Montreal, Que.)

A contested-catch specialist with baseball mitts for hands, Murphy’s physical style and ability to absorb contact makes him seem larger than six-foot and 190 pounds. The 2019 U Sports Rookie of the Year has surprising long speed but tends to decelerate out of his cuts, leading to a failure to separate that could be a concern at the next level.

A few have said that this a weak draft so I don't know if any of these next picks will ever amount to anything but you never know. Bombers next pick is a DL with some size

If you're not feeling that Bennett pick check out this article from before the draft...

Part of that is that basically the entire 1st round was so strong it was NFL bound. Usually you have 2-4 that drop due to NFL, this was a clear nfl 6, with 7 signed and a few others rookie camps. Much larger than normal, so like everyone is about a round too high.

4 (35) Winnipeg Blue Bombers — DL Tanner Schmekel, Regina

There’s nothing complicated about the six-foot-one, 290-pound defender’s game: he finds his gap and he plugs it. The first-team U Sports All-Canadian doesn’t have the highest ceiling due to middling raw athleticism but should contribute as a run-stopper who can help collapse the pocket on passing downs.

You think the Bombers should take a flyer on 1 of those guys in the later rounds

Wouldn't bet on it. I've been hoping on it for the last few years with guys like Hubbard but they Bombers don't seem to ever been in on those guys.

Whether they should, I don't mind if they do. It's flashy. The problem being the Bombers have a relatively great track record of pulling quality STers out of the late rounds. They generally do really well there, so it's hard to argue with the results.

2 out of 3 Grey Cups agree with you

5 (44) Winnipeg Blue Bombers — DL Collin Kornelson, Manitoba

The Winnipeg native has built his frame to 288 pounds after first reporting to the Bisons at 240. He tested better than some scouts expected at the CFL Combine and could make an impact at defensive tackle behind veterans Jake Thomas and Cameron Lawson.

Sounds very similar to Adamson who the Bombers sent back to U of M last year. This guy has a year of eligibility left at U of M as well so may go back to school for another year. Another local product as well.

I like the idea of taking local products when you take developmental type players. Often with developmental picks the drafting team spends 3 years developing them into good players just to see them leave in FA. With local products you have a better chance to retain them past that first rookie contract.

8. Breton MacDougall, University of Windsor (LaSalle, Ont.)

At six-foot-two and 208 pounds, MacDougall offers plenty of size in a draft class that is light on it. A true safety-only prospect, he’s upright and stiff when changing directions but packs a wallop as a tackler and will bring value on kick coverage.

----->From 3DownNation

Sounds like a very typical Bombers pick. ST pick. Very young at just 22 in late June.

7 (62) Winnipeg Blue Bombers — RB/REC Jonathan Rosery, Alberta

The local product is a converted running back who makes defenders miss using a combination of power and a low centre of gravity. He ran for 1,166 yards and three touchdowns with the Golden Bears and caught 81 passes for 1,195 yards and six touchdowns.

------->From 3DownNation

Listening 3DownNation youtube video and JC Abbott did not have good things to say. But it sounds like a guy to practice like Demski would when they give the veteran Demski days off hahaha
Then again...

11. Max Charbonneau, University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ont.)

The least productive of Ottawa’s draft-eligible linebacking corps, Charbonneau has the most pro-ready frame at six-foot-two and 224 pounds. He’s not a special athlete in any one area but has the skill set to contribute on special teams.

Pure STer with ideal size

Guys on the BB team forum say the Blue Bombers draft is uninspiring if not sucky. Missed on Bimey in round 1 and Curtis in round 2. Hmmm
I have no idea, lol.

I mean this another very very typical Walters draft. Lots of depth STer types, a focus on talented players rather than measurables, focus on character guys. This has been their MO since Walters took over. And you can't argue with the results, they've been a great drafting team for awhile.

I won't be surprised if Castillo gets beaten out by someone else. His 2022 season was pretty weak.

Interesting signing nonetheless. Guessing he's cheaper than he was commanding last time around.

Oh yeah. I would honestly say that Legghio was a more reliable kicker than Castillo last year. He had a rough one out in Edmonton. And kicker is the one spot where scheme/team doesn't make much of a difference in effectiveness.

I think on paper Castillo is probably leading the pack right now. But they have a whole gaggle of them coming to camp, like 4-6 kickers and 3-5 punters (some would overlap in both categories like Legghio) so it'll be a blood bath in camp at that position to see how it turns out.
