We might just be ending our window in 2025. By then Stanley, Bighill, Neufeld are retired. Alexander, Hardrick, Collaros, Jefferson, Jeffcoat, etc who knows if they are still effective.

I think the BB have 1 maybe 2 years as currently built of competiveness. By 2025 I'm not sure. But regardless I'm excited for another GC game, I haven't been since 1999 (out of province, unable to attend in 2006, then unable to afford it in 2015).

Maybe we can be building around a new group by then ? Faster to build in the CFL I think

This is true. Collaros is signed through the 25 season. As long as you have a QB you can compete in the CFL. Plenty of time to continue competing. Probably just my Bombers hesitancy based on most of my life being a series of disappointments.

I’m right there with ya, re: the series of disappointments, man.

Hopefully the Bombers can keep the good times rollin’.

John Hodge's 2023 CFL Mock Draft 1.0 - 3DownNation

Early Mock Draft. Has the Bombers taking an OL in Rd 1, DT/DE in Rd 2, LB in Rd 3. Would not be surprising, but IMO the Bombers Canadian needs are as follows...

1. DB - Need to replace Tyrell Ford. Him being a backup at CB, even potentially able to play S, SLB, and HB in a pinch as a Canadian was huge for depth. Bombers will likely carry a backup American DB, but it's hard to carry 1 player as a backup for 5 or 6 positions, I think they'll try to target a Canadian DB to as a developmental guy.

2. DE - Backup Americans are at a premium on the roster and it's quite clear based on last year that Jeff and Jeff work best when they have guys to rotate with to move Willie inside/outside all over. Kongbo/Hansen/Roh were huge pieces. Hansen is coming off archilles surgery and isn't even expected to be ready by TC. I doubt they'll get a plug and play player in the draft but another DE option would be nice.

3. REC - Demski has had injury troubles in recent years. With Wolitarsky also starting they only have O'Leary-Orange as a backup and undrafted guys. Wouldn't hurt to add some depth here.

4. OL (Returning to School) - Bombers have 7 OL signed ready to go next year. Bombers haven't carried more than 7 in recent years, beyond one offs like when they've dressed a guy like Machino. I can't see them taking an OL for this year, but you can never have too many OL so taking a guy returning to school makes sense (kinda like when they took Dobson, didn't need a guy that year, but helped when Desjarlais left).

5. LB - Gauthier and Briggs are getting up there, can never have too many STers/developmental guys at LB.

Knowing the Bombers they'll take a couple ST guys with later picks as well. I didn't mention DT as they've got Thomas - Lawson - Adamson (returned to school in 2022, but a solid prospect all the same) already, don't need another body in there They could take an OL for this year, too many players is always preferable to not enough haha.

Sounds like the Als have been sold, Peladeau and Quebecor are invovled

Sounds like it's officially Peladeau. That's what was announced today it seems, rather than Quebecor. Well shouldn't need to worry about penny pinching as much considering he's worth nearly 2b. He had the money for NHL (well he did 5-8 years ago), so hopefully it's all stable there for awhile.

CFL has been pushing expansion hard in recent months as well. I hope we can soon get to 10 stable teams, that'd be perfect.

I believe that Peladeau is still the chairman of Quebecor but he will be the face of the ownership of the Als

Sure but they've now announced he bought it personally. It's not owned by Quebecor, it's own by Peladeau himself. He bought it outside of the corporate structure. It's probably pocket change to him plus assuming their outstanding debts.

Hopefully he's committed, football is super popular in Quebec overall, it can certainly work in Montreal.

Deeper pockets are going to be important in rebuilding both fan and player trust. The offseason was pretty crazy hearing some of the things that players were saying about Montreal's management.
Having someone with media ties will probably help with advertising as well.

So freaking wealthy, his new toy is a professional football franchise.
Boss move.

It's better than nothing...barely. If you think MLSE are terrible owners who try to push their way around with the CFL's other teams (ie trying to push for XFL partnership), wait until you see what loud-mouth Peladeau will do trying to push his agenda with the CFL's board of governors and the commish in the coming seasons. He won't be happy losing $4-$5 million or more each season for long and will want significant changes that aren't necessarily beneficial to the rest of the league.

Saddens me to report Pro Football legend Bud Grant has passed away:(

What a legend in the sporting world. Pro basketball, Pro football in the CFL AND NFL, and Legendary Coach for the Blue Bombers and Vikings.

Rough quote was:

- “To be a good Coach you need a good quarterback a good wife and a good dog in that order.”

Or something like that. Love that quote and it speaks to the character of the man.

I am always amazed by his sporting accomplishments.

RIP good sir

BuD Grant was a legend both as a coach and a player. Finished second in the NFL in receiving yards in 1952. The very next season he signs with the Bombers and finishes first in the West in receiving yards and does that again in 1956. Retires as a 3-time CFL all star.

He immediately moves into coaching and wins 12 games in his first season as the Bomber coach. He follows this up with 5 division titles and 4 Championships in 5 years as part of the 2nd greatest dynasty in CFL history. Finished with a 102-56-2 record in the CFL. Arguably the greatest CFL coach of all-time.

He signs on as coach of the Minnesota Vikings and almost immediately turns around the franchise winning 11 division titles and taking his club to 4 Superbowls unfortunately losing in all 4 of them. His team finished with the best record in the league 5 times. Overall he had a record of 158 - 96 - 5. Greatest NFL coach to never win a Superbowl.

Oh and for good measure Bud found time to win a championship with the Lakers.

It's officially official.

I'm kinda excited here. I haven't attended a Grey Cup in Winnipeg since 1998 and at only 8/9 years old then I didn't fully understand it. In 2006 I couldn't miss my hockey to fly from Edmonton to Winnipeg with the rest of the family (my 17 year old year, too critical to miss games going for scholarships and whatnot) and in 2015 I was working in Fort MacMurray. We went to 2019 in Calgary, but as we were staying in Edmonton driving down just for the game we couldn't enjoy the parties or anything around the game.

So yeah I'm kinda excited to explore the parties and all the extra stuff that goes on around the game this time around as I've never really done that before.

I can't wait! I've been to every one in Winnipeg (1991, 1998, 2006 and 2015) and I'm not going to miss 2025.

It's interesting how two of the Grey Cups were played with the Bombers riding somewhat high (1991, 2006) while the Bombers were a hot mess total non-contender the other two years (1998 and 2015). Hopefully the Bombers will still be a competitive team when 2025 rolls around... there wasn't much Grey Cup buzz for those bad years.
