Just to show how difficult it is to get to this point.

Round 1, Game 4 - Down 2-1 in the series, LA puts up their best game but Skinner stands tall. Oilers win 1-0. A loss here and who knows how that changes the series.

Round 2, Game 2 - Down 1-0 in the series, the Oilers trail the Canucks 3-2 heading into the third. They haven’t beat the Canucks all season and just lost a heartbreaker two nights ago. One defensive error gives McClutch a breakaway, then Bouch gets a lucky bounce off Ian Cole. Losing this game would’ve ended the season imo.

Round 2, Game 4 - Down 2-1 in the series, Oilers lead 2-0 in the third before the PDO Kings come alive and tie the game late. Bouch clutches a goal even later. A loss here also ends the season.

Round 2, Game 7 - Game 7 chaos as the Canucks PDO their way to a comeback late in the 3rd. JT Miller gets a nice setup with less than 10 seconds left which is blocked by Zadorov…

Round 3, Game 1 - Oilers play a strong road game only to see Dallas tie it on a fluky bounce. McDavid takes a double minor to start OT and the Stars hit two posts during that PP. Oettinger pulls a Cujo on McDavid only to see him score an intermission later. This win gave the Oilers confidence in the series that they never lost.

Round 3, Game 4 - Down 2-1 in the series and having “Oilered” away a lead in the last game, Oilers are down 2-0 early and it looks like Skinner and Nurse might implode. Suter and Tanev starfish themselves into Oettinger which gives McLeod and the Oilers life, then Janmark scores on a one timer which he probably doesn’t score on 95/100 times.

Round 3, Game 6 - Skinner with the best playoff goalie performance for the Oilers since Roloson steals a win. Robertson with two great chances late, including an eerily similar one timer to JT Miller’s last round. Oilers lose this one and they’re headed back to Dallas against DeBoer, who has never lost a Game 7 in his career.

That’s 7 times the Oilers have been on the right side of history in this run. Any of these go the other way and we’re probably melting down on HF right now.

Take advantage of this. It’s hard to get here.

Not exactly a game event, but IMO Knob trying Kulak on the right with Nurse as his last ditch effort to stop the complete disaster that was happening with Nurse/Vinny and Nurse/Ceci (the RHD that Holland settled on), and it actually working, plus Broberg suddenly becoming an extra Kulak for the third pair. Some minor miracles IMO that also saved the third round series.

Knob has also done a great job making adjustments to counter the opposition game plans. Hopefully he can do it in the finals too. Maurice has never been a very technical coach, mainly a motivational guy. Fingers crossed Knob can find some things to expose.

So many things have to go right to get to the finals. Oilers could have a better team next year and not get a sniff.

yup, you need a little luck to get this far and the Panthers were 1 shot away from being down 3-1 in their series to the Rangers

in 2017, they got zero luck against the Ducks...one break and they'd have been in the WCF

in 2022, Avs got a lucky break in Game 1 with that odd offside rule...then in Game 3 Bouchard hits a post in the 3rd that would've given the Oilers the lead instead the Avs find a way, Game 4 they were a shot away from winning

then last year in Game 5 the PK....probably the main reason we are in the SCF this year....couldn't kill a crucial 5-on-3 and that was the turning point of that series

Don’t disagree too much with this call out. However, Skinner made a save before that where I actually told my buddy could be the TSN turning point when it happened.

It’s right after the 2 minute mark in the following of

That was on the refs for calling a hold on the rookie Broberg when both him and Eichel were fighting for position. They both were grabbing each other and Eichel wasn't called for grabbing Broberg's stick.

bad call but Vegas scored on BOTH penalties
kill one of those off and its a different game, perhaps a different series

I know, but the cascade of fail began with the refs picking one player to call in 50-50 puck battle. Then Ekholm shoots the puck over the glass on the PK, and the Oilers had to kill a 5-on-3. As you mentioned, they killed neither penalty and also allowed an even strength goal against a few minutes later.
