Wings to play in the 2023 NHL Global series in Sweden

Wings in Sweden?

What a surprise. :)

But, damn these tickets will come for sale just too early, in a week. I don't anything of my plans for next november,

Man it sounds cool on paper but I don't know if I would want my team to fly to a 6 hours back time zone to play a few days then come back and readjust in the middle of the season. I guess the energy of just doing something different might mitigate the detour.

Agreed. Fun idea but seems like this results in a wonky schedule for the Wings and more travel fatigue.

Based on previous European games, there should be 4-5 off days on each side of the trip so we'll probably have a game on Friday/Saturday Nov 10-11th and then the first game back will probably be the annual night before Thanksgiving home game on Wednesday Nov 22nd.

Maaaaaaan...

I'm thrilled they're playing in Sweden this year. A bit bummed that it's a month before my Euro trip though.

Cancel the cup parade!

(it's not for you, it's for us)
I get that and understand your perspective. I'm just answering honestly as someone not in Sweden.

I'd be curious to see the stats for teams that have taken trips like this in the past and if it's had a negative impact. There's so many back to backs already and the margin for making the playoffs is already razor thin.

Hahahah I know I don't mean to be a wet blanket. I had a cool opportunity to go to Europe last summer, but man that time change f---------d me up. I guess I am also not a 20 year old pro athlete though too. I hope you all over there get to go.

Why it is always Sweden for Red Wings? Why not Finland at least once?
Why not the Czech Republic, Switzerland or at least Germany with Seider and Stützle?

If they stay only 3 days they will do everything like they are in the Detroit time zone.

Had my hopes set on the Lions in Germany. Sounds now like it will be the Bears. This news is welcome. I will put serious thought into this. First step is finding out how the hell to get tickets.

I believe Tampa won the cup after playing in Sweden, Chicago after playing in Finland, Boston after playing in Czechia, LA after playing in Germany and Pittsburgh after playing in Sweden.

Tampa did in 2020 but that was the covid season so hockey was shut down from March and they didn't start the playoffs until August. A trip in November isn't really going to be a factor given the league shut down. That's interesting about the others though if that's the case.

For the most part it looks like the NHL Premiere games were at the very start of the season, which makes sense. It's unfortunate that this time they're doing it a month into the season.

yeah leagues playing games in other countries to draw attention to the league isn't exactly an uncommon thing but there's a reason it's usually at the start of the year

seems weird to have it in November

Since 2017, most of the European games have been in November.

Booked a ticket for both Detroit games. Toronto game is sold out and will be slim pickings once general sale hits. Anyone that is interested all you need to do is register for the Live Nation (Swedish version site) to be eligible for presale. I was able to get an upper bowl seat for Toronto and a glass seat for Ottawa. Total damages just over $300 including the ticket insurance.

Edit: Toronto game is selling out. There is still tickets but going fast.
