I'm putting this together for purposes of discussion, and also so everyone has an easy point of reference for what picks we have. If they get traded away in the offseason, I'll update in the "Disposition" column, or I'll update with the players chosen after the draft.

All info comes from CapFriendly - let me know if you see any errors.

Italics indicate a pick we've traded away.

I expect we're going to have total about 6 picks for 2023

I wish people made more of these. Selfishly. I find them fun. They are otherwise pointless though lol.

So, as it stands, Mantha + Witkowski + 2nd rounder + 5th rounder has turned into....

Walman
Cossa
Buchelnikov
4th rounder
7th rounder

If it were today, we'd trade Mantha straight up for Walman without blinking. So beyond that it's a bunch of gravy. Great trade.

Now let's repeat this with Bert  (get Doug Armstrong on the phone lol)

From THW article:

Yes, that’s correct. Detroit now has a top-pairing defenseman, a goalie-of-the-future, an intriguing prospect in Buchelnikov, two first-round picks, and a few other draft choices after making a relatively minor trade back in 2013.

That’s how you rebuild an organization.

I see an egregious error, right at the beginning. In the 2023 1st round row, it should say Connor Bedard, but you left it blank for some reason.

@SoupNazi gave some lame explanation for the "N/A" he put there, but it's actually code for "Connor Bedard." I know this because I hijacked one of Soup's submarines and stole his enigma machine.

What does Mueller have to do with this?
During the first round of the 2013 draft, the Wings traded down two spots and picked up an extra 2nd. The pick they traded was used on Mueller. The picks they received were used on Mantha and Bert.

I remember thinking Mueller was going to be a good player, what ever happened to that guy?

Can we sign him to make this come full circle? He can't be worse than Hagg.

Been thinking about this and while having 5 picks in the 1st 2 rounds this summer…I can’t help but think how nice it would be to have 3 first rounders in 24
I think it would be a good idea to trade 2 of our 2023 second rounders for another first rounder this year. There's got to be someone in the 20-28 range that wouldn't mind trading back. Could even add this/next years 4th to our 2 2nds.

I think Id prefer keeping our 2nds to adding a 3rd 1st. I find late 1st very overrated. Better to have 3 swings in the 35 - 45 range imo.

Honestly, if we are packaging picks Id prefer to do so with the islanders 1st and move higher in round one instead.

That's the other option, but I am not sure how many people would be willing to trade back that "early" in the draft. Their pick will be around the 14-16 range (most likely) so still a pretty high pick.
