I'm really not sure on this one. Feels like a pretty big drop off after #9. Ovi has the reputation, but I think someone like Tkachuk or Kaprizov might actually be more impactful

And no one picked Alex DeBrincat in the top 9, not surprising,...sad.

2nd best goal scorer in the NHL...yet no one notices him...
and one of the best overall players to boot, not a single weakness in his game
not after last season.

He has added 3 new elements to his game
past 2 seasons.

Ovie. Because... Ovie.

Kaprizov and B. Tkachuk next I think. Ehlers is up there too.

Damn, it really doesn’t take a lot for Ovi to fall off people’s radar.

Still scored goals at a 44 goal pace last year, just one season after he won the Rocket going almost at a 60 goal pace.

Not to mention the 3 who went ahead of him are all playoff choke artists, especially Marner and Stone. Huberdeau and Marner have never been top 10 in hart voting while OV came 7th literally 2 years ago. It's funny how a guy like Crosby gets voted a top 5 C even though he's shit the bed the last 3 playoffs and been clearly surpassed in the regular season. But OV, who before this season won 3 consecutive rockets, falls down so quickly.

Is playoff production having its peak as a measurement for overall player quality at the moment? It sure is in its prime at least.

I don’t have a huge problem with the guys ahead, but putting guys like Brady/Matthew Tkachuk or Ehlers? What have these guys ever done to deserve to be in the same sentence as Ovi??

Wait, what. Since when? He finished top 3 once in his career (this latest season).
Top 10 twice with the second time being 10th.
Now hes the second best goal scorer in the league? I assume you mean after Matthews but somehow that makes him finishing 3rd in goals once leap:
Mcdavid (who finished second, albeit with more games)
Ovechkin: Just won another Rocket Richard trophy
Pastrnak: Also just won a rocket
Draisaitl: 50 goal scorer and rocket runner up.

Since Debby entered the league:
2017/18 to latest season: Total goals placement 14th
2018/19 to latest season: total goals placement 14th
2019/2020 to latest season: Total goals placement 15th
Latest season: Total goals placement 3rd.

I'm sorry, he doesnt touch the top 5 goal scorers in the league after one good season.

He is below PPG in last 2 seasons while all voted above him are 1,1PPG+. And its not like he had playoff success in that time period either.

Ovechkin gets my vote.

I will say Guentzel continues to get undervalued on here. How many wingers left on the board can boast that they've basically averaged a point per game over the past 3 seasons (176 points in 177 games), or that they've averaged just slightly under a 40 goal pace the past 3 seasons (38.5 goal pace)?

Guentzel's essentially a lock to score 35+ goals and around 80 points.

People around here typically like players who do less with less. Guentzel does drop off a bit away from Crosby, but over the last two years he's better without Crosby than Crosby is without him. I don't think I'd have Guentzel next, but I do think he'll be better than Ovechkin this year (as will quite a few other wingers still on the board)

The weird thing is, though, is that Crosby's dropping. It's one thing if people are discounting Guentzel's performance because he's playing next to peak Crosby who scores 100 points in his sleep. But Crosby himself isn't a lock to finish top 10 in scoring anymore, yet Guentzel still gets heavily punished because of his linemate.

Just seems like Guentzel's offense gets punished more heavily because of Crosby than any of the other wingers who put up similar numbers do, despite them also having an elite center on their line.

I curious where you think Guentzel should go? I think he's a good player, but I don't know if we're at the stage where he should be garnering too many votes to say he's getting underrated. Seems to be mostly Ovechkin votes to round out the top 10 then a smattering of randoms. I think next round will be more telling as it opens up a lot more.

Guys like Connor, Ehlers, Tkachuk, Debrincat, Landeskog, etc. are already getting votes and mentions. IMO, I'm not sure what any of them have on Guentzel.
