WINDSOR
Well I missed today's game with Christmas visiting today Saw the results. Shootout at the OK corral from the scoreboard lol. I would sincerely appreciate a short recap of how they looked and played today. I see we were outshot. Obviously Davis was hot as per scoresheet.

I would sincerely appreciate a short recap of how they looked and played today.

First period, kind of sluggish and the Soo was taking advantage. Fortunately, Windbiel was strong.

Second period, the flood gates opened and Windsor took full advantage. I think it went from 2-1 Soo to 5-2 Windsor?

Third period, Soo played desperate hockey, outshot Windsor by 18-8 or something (it WAS 15-6 at one point). It got to within a goal, but Greentree + two empty netters sealed it.

Lots of chirping and stick work, esp late in the game. Officials tossed people left and right. Kind of like last night but not a lesser scale.

Windbiel played well early, but showed a bit of a weakness up high and the Hounds used that well. I thought his defence lessened a bit in the third, gave him more traffic to look through, which led to at least a goal or two.

Take the two points (well, four, I guess) and move onto Flint on Tuesday. Trade freeze lifts really soon, either today or tomorrow, so...

Liked the 1st 2 periods overall after that a dumpster fire, glad Spits prevailed to win their 4th straight game.
Some positives, 12 players for Windsor picked up at least 1 point,9F,3D,and 8 of those 12 had multiple point games,Davis led the way with 3G,1A,including 2 empty netters,Protas 1G,2A,Greentree 2G,1A,Abraham, Nesbitt, Morneau 1G,1A each,Garden 2A,.
Finally scored a PPG,1-3 on the day, interesting Spits are now 9th best on the PP but 3rd best on the PK.
Windbiel played well the 1st 2 periods struggled in the 3rd.
Will be interesting against Flint now that their 5 game winning streak is over after getting beat 4-1 at the hands of the London Knights.
As result of the 10 goals scored today Spits now lead the league in goals for with 152.

Last 3 games good to see Windsor's top 6 forwards getting points more regularly ie Cole Davis last 3 games has 5G,4A yet hasn't been named star in any of them, had 4 points today in fact he has 6 goals in his last 4 games,Protas has 1G,5A in his last 3,Abraham has 2G4A in his last 3 after only getting 1 point in previous 7,Greentree has 4G,1A in his last 3,Morneau has 2G,2A in his last 3 and Nesbit has 1G,3A in his last 3 games played.
No wonder Windsor tough to beat especially at home where they are 14-2-0-1.
Great goaltending by Costanzo all season certainly can't be ignored.
Special teams wise impressed with the PK now 3rd best,PP not so much has struggled lately now sit 9th best overall, definitely need improvement moving forward.

That’s one to forget. Thought Windbiel looked solid the first 40 minutes. A lot fell apart there in the third on both ends. Don’t blame Windbiel, but nice to head away with 2 points from this one.

Greentree with 3 points while still serving a 10 minute misconduct is wild.

Next question is - when does Bowler make his move(s)? Does he wait until Wednesday, giving any players a chance at one last home game? Does he do it right away Monday?

Agree . OA deadline the 9th and regular deadline the 10th. When the trigger if any is pulled is the unknown.

As I mentioned in an earlier post Windsor leads the league in Goals for with 152 in 35 games played.
The next 2 teams are Saginaw with 151 and Niagara with 149,both teams have also played 35 games each.
Fair to note London is 4th with 148 with 1 less game played.
Re goals against Windsor is 4th with 99
The top 3 are
London with 90 against
Kitchener with 92 against
Barrie with 93 against
Those 3 teams plus Windsor are the only ones under 100 goals against.
Note Windsor has played 35 games the other 3 teams re goals against have all played 34 games.
Today's 6 goals against F'd up my stats lol.

Windbiel kept them in the game for 35 minutes until the offense took over late in the 2nd.

I agree and there was ONE powerplay for the Soo. Burchell is such a joke in every game and we got him twice. It really hurts our league.

The 6th Windsor goal I still don't understand and it decided the game. A Soo player (Hayes) was being instigated upon and pulled a Matthew Barnaby style turtle (which I hate, but I digress). The rest of the Hounds players pulled up and stopped skating, obviously expecting a whistle, which led to an easy goal. I've never seen anything like that in a game.

The only thing the replay shows is three Hounds kind of in the slot area, while a Spitfire throws it on net for the goal. I didn't see what happened with Greentree/Hayes but you play until the whistle goes, esp if you're about to get scored on. If the tables were turned, I'd be annoyed at my own team for not focusing on the goal, esp when you're already down.

Yeah he took a run at Manzo. Clean hit (as was Belchetz yesterday 😉) but Greentree took exception to it and had some words for him. They didn’t really drop the gloves or do anything of significance other than yap so the play went on until after the goal was scored. Then it escalated a bit after the goal was signaled and they were both given 10s.

I hate Greentree was the one that stepped up and then sat for 10, he’s a difference maker and when he’s in the box, they rely heavily on Protas. Protas can do a bit of everything, but I feel he gets gassed when he’s without Greentree then when they’re back together, he’s not full speed.

Greentree and Manzo room together no? So that one may have hit a little bit closer to home than the typical “they’re taking shots at our rookies”

Sure, he was being instigated upon and he didn’t drop. Had Hayes dropped the gloves, Would’ve been no goal Windsor, and a powerplay for the Soo with Greentree getting the extra two. If you’re willing to throw the body and not the hands, this may be the result you get.

Greentree has been more aggressive lately. I've noticed him stepping up for teammates over the last few weeks to a month. I'm glad they didn't go this time; negate the goal and who knows what happens after that.

I'm not exactly pleased with the Hounds players for giving up, but I've still never seen anything like that in a hockey game.

It's kind of hard to fault them in another sense, when a whistle would have been blown nearly 100% of the time. Really weird play and unfortunate that it probably decided a really entertaining hockey game instead of the players being the deciding factor.

Good luck going forward. I hope Belchetz isn't out too long, I don't think he meant to make head contact.

They can't all be pretty wins, knew it was going to be a battle in some way. Nice road trip for the boys and big 4 points against a division opponent, lots of time left obviously but this Spitfire team is starting to secure that top spot in the division and atleast a second place finish in the conference. With that said I still don't think we should go big at the deadline, there's no Need to salvage the next two years, if a good trade is there to shore up the D or bring in a stronger well rounded veteran forward at a decent price then pull the trigger. Guys like Manzo, Gaymes, Outwater, Martin and maybe a few players that are on B Cards, and a few draft picks would be all I would sacrifice from this teams future, which won't get you too much in a trade hahaha.

Anyway I'm happy so far, after last seasons shit show I am happy with the compete level on most nights and happy to be watching winning games this season. Big New years eve showdown tomorrow. Would Be nice to secure another 2 points against a division match-up. Guessing Costanzo starts, Windbiel had some promising moments, especially the first 40 but some expected jitters as well, pond hockey of a 3rd period but nice to see him get his toes wet and pick up his first Win in the OHL, Congrats kid!!

Go Spitfires!!

I respect it. I feel his captaincy may have interfered a bit with his progression, but you can tell he truly cares about this team and his teammates.

If he was a bit more quiet, I could see him running up more numbers, but from what I’ve seen on the ice, and heard about off it, there’s no one else I’d want wearing the C.

Sure, lines are jumbled a bit but he’s still getting 1st line minutes. We had 6 periods in the Soo, and Greentree had 4 points in the 5 he was available for (a pair of 10 minute misconducts sticking up for teammates).

I don’t love him getting 10s, but I also don’t love Burchell reffing. Different stripes and he easily could’ve been sitting for offsetting minors instead.

I actually missed goal #6, because I was watching stuff develop behind the play, however, it hadn’t been blown dead.
I think both sides have the same ref complaints over the weekend.

I’m in the same boat with what I’m willing to ship out in a trade, it’s not much.

We all feel a need to sharpen up the D, but I don’t know if we could have a better group that’s not NHL drafted.

Trade Freeze is over, excited to see how the next 12 days play out across the league.

Christoforo has made leaps of progress. I’d expect him where he is now if I didn’t watch a game last season. He’s almost Boka level of blocking shots, skates well and he moves the puck well.

I don’t think Woodall is as offensive as people think. He’s not that “big” stay at home D man, but it’s rare someone gets to the inside on him. He’s strong enough to keep guys to the outside, and has a great stick and instinct to cut pucks off along with awareness and positioning.

Walton, I’m growing a bigger fan of. He has that potential to be that big D man we want, but he doesn’t bring out the aggressive side, however, at his size… if he did, he’d be in the box non-stop. He’s a bit quiet out there, in the best way. I’d like to see him be more physical, but not over the top.

Mathurin’s our best defensive D man.

Hicks is going to be something special. I always feel D take longer to develop than forwards, but for being a first year guy, I don’t think there’s any question he’s earned a spot in the lineup every night.

Eichler is our most physical D man. I think we could upgrade over him in our import spot, but he holds value to this team, even as a depth piece as he can slot up into the Top 4 if needed. Thinking he may be the best spot to upgrade in the Top 6. I could see a Crafty move with Eichler out, a similar Canadian D Man in, and a 25/26 returning import coming in on forward that’s a reasonable cost.

Manzo/Winegard are the guys I could see moved out, but watching Winegard this weekend, he doesn’t really look out of place. Bottom pairing D man at most, but if injuries occur, I’m okay with him at #6. Manzo I like, big fan of the fact he’s an 07 with where he’s at as well, but these two I see on the outside looking in, with a brighter future for Manzo obviously.
