How is this close? Trouba is under team control, Stone is not. Ceci negates much of the value Stone has as a rental, and the Jets are somehow the ones who add?
You think Ceci is worth less than nothing? Theres you're problem. I think Ceci will return likely a first or second round pick at worst. Good player, needs a fresh start. Might be a cheaper option for the jets to lock up longer term to replace Trouba. Stone is a clear rental, and those arent free either!! Sens need to build for the future

You can easily make a logical, fact-based, and objective argument for Ceci being one of the absolute worst players in the entire league. He has not demonstrated anything close to good NHL level play. If you want to make the argument that he is used for a role he is not suited for, Trouba is succeeding in that same role in Winnipeg.
He is supposed to be cheaper than Trouba long-term, seeing as he has been below NHL caliber for quite some time now. As for Stone, his value is hindered by his approaching UFA status. Three months of Stone are not worth much, from an objective standpoint.
Build towards the future at the expense of someone else.
Ya 3 months of Stastny last year is worth a 1st, a 4th and a prospect and 3 months of Stone is "not worth much" ... LMAO. Ceci might be having a bad year but hes played 400ish games in the league and he will be a better player in a new market again. He is worth way more than nothing as you imply here.

Ceci has negative value. Nothing about his track record will entice any competent GM to buy.

How much do you really think a stone rental is going to net you. Guaranteed the main piece is first round pick.

Yeah man, Boyle is worth a second, and one of the best two way wingers in the league is worth about a first.
My guess would be a 1st, a conditional 2nd pick (either something like Stone resigns or the team makes the Cup finals/wins Cup), and one of a team's top 5 prospects (not a blue-chipper but a notch or two down from that). There are a couple examples of this type of return for deadline rentals of players that aren't as good as Stone in the last few years.
If we don't sign Trouba it's because he wants out and by all accounts Ottawa isn't a preferred destination.
Stone probably returns a 1st, high end prospect or a 1st and some quality mid tier prospects. Potentially some conditions attached to both sides such as a Cup win or re-sign netting additional assets.

Not going to happen. We have no money to sign Duchene and Stone but somehow we have cash for Trouba ?
