I saw a post in some other thread about Eakins will coach the Rangers if Torts is fired. Could we afford to lose this guy?! Is he next to get a job after another coach gets fired? I don't want to lose him

Lindy Ruff would seem like the first one in line to replace a fired coach, imo. Eakins is definitely going to get his chance in the NHL, and as much as I would love it to be with the Leafs, I doubt it will work out that way.

100%. Guaranteed. And within 5 years of becoming an NHL coach, Eakins leads some lucky team to Lord Stanley's Cup. Leafs will still be without a playoff appearance. Pessimistic? Perhaps, but with the Leafs cursed status, it's disturbingly plausible.

I think so.

Buuuuuuuuuut, he was originally offered more money to coach somewhere else before he coached the Marlies, but he chose the Marlies due to Toronto is where his wife is from. So maybe Leafs management will promise him he will be the next Leafs coach if he is patient, so his family gets what they want... Hopefully.

If torts gets fired, I think it is Lindy Ruff or even Ron Wilson in there because of Sather. If Sather goes too then I could see Eakins getting hired.

I think EDM will give Kruger more then 1 season.

San Jose could be in line for a new coach. Colorado? Philly?

With Eakins, it's simple.

He's overdue a job in the NHL.

Either it will come in Toronto, or it will come elsewhere.

But it will come. And it will come soon.

The ball is in Nonis' court; I don't think there's any reason to get rid of Carlyle, but fact is Carlyle isn't Nonis' coach and we know Dave is a big fan of Eakins.

So in short - yes we will lose Eakins if he's not coaching this team soon, and that's nothing more than what Eakins deserves after the phenomenal job he's done with some of the young players in the organization.

Could we maybe give Eakins an assistant job? Not sure if that is better or not.

He seems to really love coaching the Marlies team.

Maybe he is like Paul Ranger and just wants to be in Toronto :sarcasm:

Holy hell Eakins is the most overrated coach in history. You would think he won the Stanley Cup... or heck, that he was an NHL coach.

Half the threads are whining about Holzer and Kostka; the other half are appointing Eakins as the greatest coach that ever lived. Pick a damn side.

Carlyle is a billion times the coach Eakins will ever dream to be. Stop constantly wanting change and appreciate what we freaking have.

I like your style, lets bash Eakins so other fans think he's crap and maybe nobody will want him as their NHL coach.

That Eakins sure is horrible, don't you agree fellow fans.

Could it work with 3 assistant coaches? If he would accept some type of coaching role with the Leafs?

I think Dallas is on record that an NHL assistant role is not his next progression. His next step would be head coach, NHL only. He has a great gig with the Marlies and will be picky about any NHL head coaching opportunity. There is lots of interest in him.

Lose Eakins?

Who cares.
