Will we ever see a Russian NHL head coach?

It's a catch-22.

Of course there are outliers, but working one's way up through the North American ranks isn't too enticing for the best and most established Euro coaches.
Meanwhile NHL teams aren't too interested in hiring coaches straight out of Europe.

Malkin dedicated his hart trophy to Gonchar. Said he was the best teammate he’s ever had. Taught him so much about the North American game

He seems like he could be.
Hughes thinks he is a really good coach
He has a Norris, and potentially a 2nd as his teaching the defense core
Gonchar was f***ing magic when he was working with defensemen in Pittsburgh.

Habs looked at a Russian coach a while ago, as he spoke French, but I think they didn't go with him because he didn't speak English, but that part I could be misremembering

Currently, Sergei Gonchar is an assistant coach in Vancouver, and Viacheslav Fetisov was an assistant coach in New Jersey.

Do you think we will see one in the next few years? Ten years?
Probably but pretty low. New NHL coaches have a very short leash and have very few opportunities to prove themselves. NHL teams are more content going with someone with existing experience which is why we land up with someone being selected from the same pool of coaches.

Assuming we are not meaning still with the accent.

Wayne's dad, Walter Gretzky, was a landowner in the Russian Empire. So he was successful and wealthy in Russia where being a landowner was very prestigious. Walter Gretzky - Wikipedia

He ran away to Canada right before the Russian revolution.

So Wayne Gretzky the former Phoenix Coyotes coach has thick Russian ancestry.

Edit: Granddad. Anton, not Walter.
