I think it'll be impacted by the wave of COVID that's expected to hit in the wintertime, but not necessarily cancelled. There's a lot riding on how much medical progress is made over the next 6-8 months.

I'll be optimistic and say no they won't.

If / when corona virus terrorize hockey world December 2020
IIHF and Hockey Canada must seriously consider cancel 2021 U20 WJC's as much it sucks.

That's 90-95% sure all U20 WJC pre tournament games will be cancelled.
These current travel restrictions won't end immediately if / when Corona pandemic
decreases in Europe and a round the world during the summer 2020

and other 50% for that 2021 U20 WJC's will be cancelled.
Final decision is heavily depend on that how long corona pandemic terrorize hockey world.

But that's for sure all U20 WJC pre tournament games will be cancelled
these travelling limits won't end immediately when corona pandemic is over or even under control.

Domestic flights have already begun and nations are targeting July for their opening of the Itl tourism industry. If the pre-tournament games are in early December, as opposed to late December, I'm not seeing how they would be more affected by travel restrictions.

Maybe we will get lucky and the WJC will be the 1st. international tournament post lockdown. maybe we'll be even luckier and the NHL season is delayed until January, a dream team tournament would be a fantastic way to come out of this thing. Let's make our rosters.

I don't see a big difference between pre-tournament games and WJC itself in regards of travelling limits. Aren't the most pre-WJC games in Canada anyway when tournament is in Canada?

Canada vs Russia CHL ( Canadian Hockey League not that European CHL)
U20 tournament is only U20 WJC pre tournament which is held in Canada.

Also it's impossible to say for sure right now will there even be U20 junior hockey
or any hockey at all this season because this Corona pandemic screwed up so much

So it's better to wait and see with good amount of time what's going to happen.
But the fact is that peoples health around the world is right now much more important than hockey

I'm more worried about the domestic leagues these kids play in, that rely on gate revenue. CHL teams don't have the TV contracts to survive this.

Worst case scenario, take the tournament back to its roots and hold it in the middle of nowhere without fans.

IMO, you could put this tournament in an empty Jr B rink, and we'll all watch. To be honest, forget the capacity crowds if necessary.

source? the WJC is something that relies on revenue to stay a float.

question is how these teams will do a selection camp when they are probably not even going to be playing.

René Fasel tells RIA Novost that the World Cup will be played without an audience because there is no coronavirus vaccine yet. The Games will be played in Edmonton, Canada and Red Deer from December 26, 2020 to January 5, 2021.
