Speaking of Matthews, I’m wondering that if the leafs continue their premier play and win the division , could maybe the team play in Arizona for the conference finals? It might be the friendliest American city to host the leafs (or maybe San Jose cuz Thornton).

I thought the same at the time. Looking back now though, it's probably best for him to just have an 'A' rather than having the pressure of being captain.

Allows him to be himself without all the added pressures while at the same time he can develop his leadership portfolio.

In reality, this team has quite a few leaders. Some lead simply through their performance. They seem like a leadership by committee group.

Tavares has done nothing wrong to have it taken away from him. The guy is a great role model for the group and has the right type of personality for this hockey market.

I do think Matthews should have gotten it in the first place but Tavares is the captain now until he leaves.

Tavares will be Captain till his contract is completed. I cant see him getting traded throughout the life time of his contract.
How long did it take for them to give out the C again? no way in hell Leafs would strip him of his C

It was once Leafs tradition for the captain to hand the C down to the next captain.
I expect they'll re-instate this.
Look for it in the summer of '23. Maybe '24.

They will not strip him, but there will be a pass over to Matthews. It’s happened on many teams before so it’s not unusual for teams to switch Captains. I’m sure they will ask Tavares first and they will do it in a way that is respectful

It'll only change if he wants it to change. If he decides to hand it off to Matthews, or someone, then sure. But that's his call. The team sure isn't going to take it from him.
