Kinda surprised no team has signed him yet he does have skill but has his reputation of being only good for secondary offence caught up to him do you think he gets a contract ? What are your thoughts,

He'll get a camp deal if he's willing to wait from someone. Don't think anyone is going to give him a guaranteed contract.

Would be surprised if the canucks don't take a look. Jim loves undersized 13th forwards

Fwiw, it took awhile, but Gagner was trying on defense with Philly and was playing with Raffl and Couts on the 2nd line when Voracek was hurt.

I'd imagine he could get a two-way deal after a PTO.

If not, he could go to Europe for a few years and then return. or he could stay there for his entire career.

Needs to go to CHI

I was thinking, "this is the kind of guy that walks into a cheap deal and wins a cup".

Has skills and speed. Needs consistency. He lacked necessary leadership necessary to grow as an NHLer. Still really young, too.

He's pretty average to below average across the board. I figured a bottom feeder with room in their top six would give him one last chance this offseason but maybe that's not the case anymore.

Down the stretch and into the playoffs, he was one of the best Flyer forwards. He had a really rough go of it early, with the coach giving him no minutes and with garbage players (some of it just), then he got sent down to the AHL. But eventually after coming back up, he clicked. He's not without his flaws, but he was playing some inspired, grittier hockey, with his usual good hands to boot. He got some PP2 minutes, but he was used incorrectly as a net-front guy for some reason.

If he can be signed cheap and on a 1 year deal, he could be a solid bargain bin signing, with the chance to be a real value steal. He really looked like a different player the last few months, which is why it's kind of sad no one took a chance yet.

Maybe Sam could catch on with Anaheim or Columbus as a depth player (12th or 13th forward).

As long as Gagner expects a 1 year deal for under 1mil.

Can he play center? Maybe he could head to Chicago. And play C with Kane. And then stick a reliable defensive winger on the left wing.

Hoping he gets a tryout in Edmonton. He was a good teammate and at a bargain basement price he'd provide good offensive depth considering Chiarelli has already added the size to the lineup. He'll have to get over the Kassian thing for that to happen though.

They won't break up the Panarin - Anisimov - Kane line for Sam Gagner.
Maybe they should add Sergei Kostitsyn too......

This obsession with re-uniting jr lines needs to end. it drove me insane with all the trade ideas around the draft around Matthews, to get Dvorak and Tkachuk.

His agent tweeted that Gagner is likely headed to Europe

This makes sense. I always liked him, but watching him as a Flyer was frustrating. He has great skill, but no speed or strength. He can make amazing plays on the PP, shootouts etc, but he can't EVER get the puck off the other team. He can't play D even when he tries to, and he did. Sad but true, there's the cautionary tale of putting a guy in the NHL before he was fully developed and he never did. I wish him well, he can be a star in Europe.
