League and [especially] cap situations the way they are... seems like he has all the right ingredients to receive multiple offer sheets next Summer. I can see an easy majority of the league having the space and the only complication being the picks required - so that limits the crop a little bit, but not by much.

14, 15M by 7? Think Utah cares about that if they still need a star? Should be an interesting Summer with the free agent crop, obviously - but depending on this next season in Chicago I got to wondering about the kids future. Chicago might be throwing 10+ by 8 right now, but in this new cap world that might not be enough for an RFA of his stature. Crazy times.

Offer sheets aren't going after thr high profile pkayerd like Bedard. Thry will br liw comp OS like what st Louis did last year

There has yet to be a huge profile offer sheet under current RFA offer sheet rules for a reason. IT would have to be so high to get team to not match than you are basically screwing yourself the next several years while the other team benefits from using those picks to improve their roster. The team making the OS rarely gets the full value of what they give up in complenstation out of the player they are getting via offer sheeting.

Bedard doesn't have that kind of leverage to demand a short contract like that as a RFA with out arbitration rights. He'll get max 8 years from chicago.
Sure he does, but he doesnt seem like the type to do what it takes to get it done - but that org is desperate. If he said I want a five year deal or else im sitting out or demanding a trade then Chicago would do it.

For someone like a mcdavid you need to make a max offer

There was ROR and Aho OS done but those got matched. JK by Carolina— montreal took the comp

He seems like an awful target:

1.He has proven nothing so far
2.He would be in the 4 1st range and you'd handicap your team offering him 11.5+ million which would easily be matched by Chicago

Where exactly could he flourish? On a team close to or slightly in the playoffs? So there's like 2-3 teams that could make the offer and it would kinda make sense?

Again it goes back to why Chicago wouldn't match it? It just prolongs their rebuild getting nothing tangible back but cap space that would go unused as who would want to go to them without Bedard?

No. He’s not proven he’s worth the four first compensation.

Chicago would trade him before it comes to that. If Bédard wants out an offer sheet in the worst way to go. Chicago has no reason not to match.

I think Vanek was the first biggie? Edmonton offered somethin that required 4 firsts, Buffalo foolishly matched. I liked Vanek, team was trash though.

Anyway, OP- Thise numbers are way high, even with a rising cap. Talent is there, but dude has not impressed (that much) at the nhl level. If he fails to progress (which happens with players, even #1 picks) then youve paid 15 mil to a bad faceoff and D 70 point center.

That all said, there have been rumors of him not being happy with Chicago, and I can’t really blame him. There is a scenario where he doesn’t extend, someone offer sheets, and Hawks rid their hands of it.

I think OS rules c h anger sone since Vanessa.

If Buffalo had signed one of brierre or Drury they likely let Vanek go.

Penner was another one between anaheim and Edmonton around the dame time

If Chicago says no he can seek out an offer sheet or the moment he gets arbitration rights he can go 1-2 years at a time.

He looks miserable in Chicago and Chicago has no leverage to force him beyond RFA years.
