Not trying to flame a guy for whom I have a lot of respect... but, couldn't help noticing that Tie wasn't there to see his son play in the WJC Finals, win gold, and be awarded top player in the tournament.

Does anyone know what happened? Why he wasn't there? Max' mother and (I believe) sister were in attendance but no Tie...:help:

I can't stand him but have a ton of respect for him after this tourney. He said he wasn't doing interviews because this was about Max. I'm sure he was there somewhere but seeing he and his wife split, wasn't sitting with her.

he has said this is about his son. he is hiding from the spotlight. good on him

Pretty cool to see a guy who was seemingly always the center of attention during his career know when to take a step back and let his kid have his moment.

I will still never forget that water bottle incident though.

Met the Jets team outside the old Winnipeg Arena after a practice when I was 7 during Teemu's rookie season (mine as well). Tie was the only one who gave us a hard time about signing an autograph. Guy was a complete jerk at the time, I'm glad he's matured enough to step back from the spotlight for his son. Teemu on the other hand, well... I still have his rookie card signed, my sticks signed and pics with him and my brother. Felt like a million bucks that day, sorry if it's a bit of a random story. I liked Tie on the ice, I just always felt irked towards him as a personality because of that encounter though. It wasn't like there was anyone else outside waiting for autographs or anything with us on that freezing cold day.

In the bio about Max he said the most important person in making his hockey career was his mom. I think that says a lot.

Tie is a guy who left his mom and was probably not around that much. Look at Brett Hull, he didn't have much great to say about his dad when he was young.

I like hearing that Tie was a jerk (and conversely, that Teemu was a class act) because I always hated the guy. Even when he was a Leaf, and even before that playoff elbow on Scott Neidermayer (that turned the entire series), I just couldn't stand him.

Knowing Tie Domi, he probably showed up for the game in Montreal only to learn it was in Toronto.
Fortunately for Max, he appears to take after his mom.

What wild speculation based on a one word answer. Does producing this type of hyperbole make you feel better about yourself?

I am a sens fan and have always found Tie to be a class act. He signed an autograph for me as a child when he was with Winnipeg and was very kind about it.

The fact that he stayed out of the spotlight speaks volumes about him. There were also many reports about how he had max around the team as a child and very hands on. Being a father and playing in the NHL always on the road isn't easy Seems to me Max has turned out pretty well don't you think?

Tie cheated on Max's mom (with a very high profile partner) when he was just 11 years old. It's not surprising that Max would take his mom's side over his philandering father's.

His wife and him don't like each other and are divorced its pretty clear

From 2007:
The estranged wife of ex-Toronto Maple Leaf tough guy Tie Domi is bringing him back to court on Thursday and threatening to shut him out of their children's lives until he and the family undergo psychological assessments.

"Tie Domi's relationship to the children is disastrous: He has induced our son Max (11) to become seriously violent and uncontrollable," states Leanne Domi in documents filed in court and obtained by the Toronto Sun.

"He is trying to recreate Max in his own image -- as a bully and an abuser, and this has now caught the attention of Max's school and hockey coaches."

Leanne alleges Domi recently told his 13-year-old daughter Carlin that she "is making his life a living hell."

"He has reduced our daughter Avery (8) to hiding from him to prevent being with him; and he has unleashed upon our eldest daughter Carlin a series of furious, vicious verbal attacks that have left her in tears."

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

According to the documents, Leanne's lawyer is seeking an order "suspending (Domi's) access to the children, pending delivery of recommendations by the psychologists."

ITT: A bunch of people run their mouths over something they know nothing about.

Tie doesn't want to be in the spotlight, interviewed, or anything of the sort. He has said it's Max's time to shine.

As for them not getting along, you couldn't be more wrong.

Wow, sounds like something hits close to home.
