Why hasn't Edmonton sent Pulju down?

Pulju logged 3:27 of ice time in Thursdays win against Boston. What exactly is the point in dragging an 18 year old kid all over North America and ruining his confidence just to have him play 5 minutes or not play at all? Why does McLellan/Chiarelli think this is a good idea? The Condors are dead last in their division with the 2nd lowest goal total in the AHL, and you have a high offense winger stuck either scratched or playing minimal minutes in the NHL.
I've never seen a team be as totally clueless at development as the Oilers.

Maybe they want him to start his career around a winning environment (which Edmonton currentlynhas, and as you stated, the Condors do not).

Not saying I agree with keeping him up, but there could be legitimate reasons.

I assumed he had already been sent down since I haven't really seen him in the handful of Oilers games I've watched. Is it similar to the Draisaitl situation a couple years ago ? (aside from the AHL eligibility)

Oilers are just that weak at RW.
Had Pitlick stayed healthy he would be in Bakersfield.
We'all be acquiring a RW via trade soon enough, then he can be sent down

Exactly the same, with the caveat that the Oilers are moderately decent this season as opposed to the clown show that they were 2 years ago.

Not that I agree with the decision, but I think a large aspect of it, is that Pulju speaks virtually no English, substantially less than most young Finnish prospects, and they are communicating with him through Iiro Pakarinen (the two are friends), and they wouldn't be able to be nearly as direct with him in Bakersfield.

We had the same situation with Draisaitl though, and he's turned out more than fine.

ive never understood it... ive thought since start of the year he needs to be in the AHL. Very odd...

has only dressed 8 times in the past 16 games and in only 2 of those games he has gotten over 10 mins. And in last 4 games his TOI has decreased big time each game

Not NHL ready

Get a translator down in Bakersfield if you're that worried about his english skills instead of stunting his potential in the NHL.

IMO that would be a terrible reason to keep him in the NHL. I realize everyone is wondering why hes up, but I just cant see that being the reason.

My thoughts exactly. All this "getting to know the American culture"-crap is beyond me. It can NOT be the whole reason and if it is, they truly are morons in Edmonton's development system. If they have one.

The Oilers have another Finn in the AHL, Jere Sallinen. He's 26, so I would assume he knows a bit of english. That would be one way to help Jesse down there.

Please. This kid has won quite a lot. If anything they should send him to losing enviroment where even he can't turn it around even if they give him every change.

The sad part is that he was NHL player and developing but Todd stopped it.

Don't remember if it was after the Rangers game when Todd said Pulju was creating as many scoring chances as anyone on the roster, he had nice adv stats, he got a shot with McDavid and had 4 ES points in 4 games(didn't get a point on Klings own goal) and again posted nice numbers. It seemed like Pulju and McDavid had chemistry and McDavid was on fire.

But they lost to Ari followed by Toronto loss and Pulju was benched for 3 games. After that it has been 1-2 games playing with 8 mins icetime followed by 1-2 games at the press box.
No special teams for Pulju.

Confidence level about zero right now. He could be a big help(top6 winger) for them this season already but not like this.

How Pakarinen is more his friend than Sallinen? Sallinen at least know how to play playstation.

Most Oilers fans want him sent down, Chiarellis reasoning in interviews has been

1) Learning the North American and in particular NHL game, so he knows what to work on.
2) Learning English
3) Get to know his teammates and coach, as he is hopefully going to be a massive part of our core going forward.

I think the plan has always been to slowly bring him in, then send him to the AHL.

As bad as it has been, it worked for Leon Draisaitl, which most think is an exception (note: Pulju is much better than Leon was as a rookie). Last season Leon talked about being demoted, said it was bad for his confidence. BUT he also said having tasted the NHL life he worked his butt of to ensure he'd be back there for good next season, and he was able to pinpoint his NHL weaknesses and work on them in Kelowna. Now he is looking like a solid 70 point two-way forward who can play any forward position equally.

I believe the plan all along has been to slowly bring in Pulju, and have him burst onto the scene a much more improved player next season.

Oilers should trade for Yakupov
Former 1st overall pick, very skilled guy, plays rw
Could score a lot of goals playing with McDavid
