Do they not have a grasp of who their base is.
I could care less who watches or goes to the games, but why is a certain group being pushed/honored?

curios and welcome to move this thread to wherever appropriate.
Yeah this seems more like a main board topic.

I don’t care! All I’m saying is that that community is probably at a guess maybe 1-5% of the viewing audience.
I’m simply asking from a business perspective…..would you invest time $ etc for a viewing margin like that?

I do wonder if the NHL is ready for pride night, or more specifically the pride jerseys.

I personally wouldn't have an issue wearing one as long as they look good but I'm not an NHL player and there seems to quite a few that aren't willing to wear the jersey.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to sheleve the Jerseys for now and bring them back in say 5 years when certain players are retired or on their way out.

Keep the pride night, but sheleve the jerseys for now.

It's happening everywhere, not just the NHL. Youtube, Kids shows, schools etc. It's a left wing political ideology just being spread everywhere, if the conservatives or republicans win the next election it will most likely stop. It sucks because the pride movement was about inclusivity and fighting for rights and freedoms like marriage or not being discriminated against at the workplace, or getting a job altogether.

It really doesn’t matter what percentage of the audience is gay or not. The whole point it to promote awareness that everyone is included and accepted.

But at the same time, those who choose not to wear a pride jersey shouldn’t be targeted or in the wrong. They should also have the choice and not be forced into something they are not comfortable with or is against their religious beliefs.

That does not mean they don’t accept gay people at all and that’s where the issue is IMO.

My first cousin is gay, but you’ll never see me wear a pride shirt or jersey. That doesn’t mean I don’t accept my cousin and hate him. I love the guy and what he chooses to do with his life is his choice and I fully support him and will be by his side all the time.

If players and fans want to wear pride jerseys, let them. If players and fan choose to not wear pride jerseys, let them. WE SHOULD ALL HAVE THE CHOICE.

Maybe not everything is about business.
It’s about telling a vulnerable community they are welcome because like someone already said hockey is for everyone.

Agree 100% with everything you said.

All I’m saying is that it seems like a marketing strategy to a base that is probably very small.
Its a social tide like Metoo and BLM. It costs very little to do and is only a marketing strategy to the extent they avoid possible criticism for not doing it. Professional sports has enough baggage they don't need to ignore societal trends. They step much more lightly now in hopes the past will be left in the past and championing diversity of any kind is not just seen as positive, but expected from the sports and entertainment industry.

This thread will get locked.

There's three sides. The corporate side trying to ride a woke wave to make money, people who call it out, and people who think it's about inclusion. The 1st side profits from the manufactured controversy and inevitable debates between the 2nd and 3rd sides.

Do the NFL, NBA, And MLB have jersey pride night's? Or are they aware that fans and players don't necessarily want to be involved in socialpolitical agendas?

I'm not sure why people are surprised that a consumer-driven hockey league would want to be welcoming and support a marginalized community's right to participate in the sport that they're promoting. It's literally a win for everybody and everything except bigoted beliefs.
