Why do people put an "x" infront of twitter name?

It makes sense when a team does it to denote the team making the playoffs, as that's how their name would appear on the standings.

It doesn't make sense when Joe Blow does it. It's a terrible to indicate which team you're rooting for. Also, you did not make the playoffs, nor would your name ever appear on the standings.
