The link on boston.com's Bruins page is broken, but I found the article...good read. Like Kaufman, I've been thinking all along - a new start from what? Is he miserable at having hooked up with a winning team? Bottom line, looking for more $$$$, regardless of where he plays...that's his personal decision, but hope he'll be happy taking $6M/year while playing for a Florida like team again.

I bet I am the only fan who doesn't care about Horton leaving and is actually happy. Yes he helped in 2011 but since those injuries he floated around a lot.

I'm also fine with it. Not because he's a floater (imho he isn't), but because his best days are behind him, his injuries have been too significant to put 6m+ in, and imho if we're trying to replace about 20-25 goals a year out of him, we can do it without paying 6m.

really wanted to see them find a way to keep him but looks like he didn't give chia and co a choice.

To bad because one thing we know is he does have another gear come playoffs.

also another Bruin who gave me a memory that will last forever (along with Ference and is finger) is gone from that cup team. Horton putting garden water on the ice in Vancouver will stay with me forever.

Haven't been a huge fan either since his concussions and he's been doing enough to make it seem as though the effort is there, but it was obvious he was no longer the same.

I'll say this though, had he taken a home town discount to stick around, I wouldn't have minded. They'll be hard pressed to replace his 25 goal run rate seasons through "organic" growth.

To me it's like Thomas in some ways (obviously not the crazyness). At first "oh man can we do this without him?". And then you realize that ya, all things consider the Bruins team can totally do it without him.

Good read. Happy trails, Horton! I'm thrilled he decided to walk away, was very concerned Chia would overpay to keep him.

Horton will be missed. But I question how much? If a big name ends up landing here to replace him so be it. Perhaps on the bright side we may actually upgrade. With Horton leaving that opens up cap space no?

Good read on the article but perhaps its the fact that he did play with the torn up shoulder and felt forced too? I dont know, but something happened to want him to leave. Perhaps PC was going to offer a one year deal due to the cap and go for longer term next year. again we can only speculate.

With realignment and TPA and DET now in our division regular season slackers are gonna hurt even more. That goes for last year's Lucic also.

So once Horton signs elsewhere, who's going to make the GIF of Lucic running alongside his train as he leaves town?

Haggs talking with Toucher & Rich this morning said Horton may have been a little miffed he wasn't extended during the season. Also, that his wife Tammy loves the sun and would prefer for him to play on a team from the sunshine belt.

Well that's just a silly excuse not to extend. We have sun here in New England....granted it's usually behind a cloud but it's still sun.

Is there an ego problem?

This notion is something of a reach, but not implausible.

In Florida, Horton was consistently the guy. Though he never amassed more than 62 points in a season, he was regularly among his team's leaders in both goals and points.

In Boston, there was plenty of spotlight to go around and it rarely shined on the right wing outside of the playoffs.

Stole my reasoning.

If the guy was after the money, why insert the fresh start comment?

You are not alone.

I wouldn't want to pay him 5 mil +

Put him with 2 different line mates and I bet his numbers go down.

I bet it is about not being the #1 guy in town. ...or the $$$.

Send him back to Florida where he can do nothing for 20 games and no one will care.

We all want to cry of our heroes. We all want a reason to judge so we can dismiss the feeling of loss. In the end, it is just business. It is a career decision. He wanted a fresh start. I honor him for doing what he felt was right.

I don't begrudge him for chasing the money.

He's had concussion issues and this could be his last chance to really cash out. It's why I didn't think they'd be able to bring him back. This next contract is going to take care of his family for life, regardless of how he plays or if he gets hurt. Good luck to him (and I'm glad the B's had the good sense not to be the ones to give him the contract he's looking for.)

I agree but the "fresh start" comment came off weird to me. They could have just explore other options/offers. But "fresh start" seems like its more than $$.

Either that, or pretty horrendous PR spin by the agent. See, its not about the money, he just didn't like it here.

Said something similar in the Thank You thread. Agree 100%.

While I agree with Bill's view completely, I will guarantee that the same people who are saying good riddance, concussions, coasts too much etc. will be whining about why the B's let him go if they don't get the clutch goal scoring in next season's playoffs. So sad to kick a guy on his way out the door when he provided us with HUGE goals that helped to win the first Cup in 40 years. He was/is a clutch playoff performer and will get paid. I think we may miss him, especially in the short term.
