Reports say that 6000 tickets are unsold for an evening game between sweden-swiss.

Swiss team said ice were worse in Paris and swedish team said lighting in the arena is terrible. Swiss also said it is really quiet in the arena.

France has no interest for hockey and nothing will come out of this. Swedish journalists said it was a giant party in Cologne but no one gives a damn in paris.

Bet if they picked two cities in the rhine area in Germany every single game would be sold out. Doesn't even matter if you'd pick cologne, krefeld or düsseldorf. They all have new arenas. Plus there's less then 50 miles between all these towns, so nobody could complain about the traveling. An hour on the Autobahn and you're there

Krefeld has 8000 seats, though.

Köln and Düsseldorf kind of seems like the ideal situation for a World Championship. They also chose Mannheim in 2010 though. Maybe they do prefer the fans to spread out more for hotel, public transport and security reasons. Everyone could basically just hang out together, if it was in Köln and Düsseldorf.

I don't know. Security doesn't strike me as a valid reason. Probably a Ruhr Derby in footy needs more security. Hotels shouldn't be a problem either. Both cities are hubs, there are a lot of events happening that draw visitors all the time. You'll probably need a couple of extra trains before and after games because public transport already is excellent. I think you want to spread it out so it doesn't look like one region is hogging all the games.

They did have Leverkusen-Köln, Schalke-HSV and an election as well last weekend, so obviously the NRW police force is capable of doing more than just hording around some hockey fans. Point taken.

Absolutely. With few exeptions, clubs of the Ligue Magnus are pretty much from that area with Lyon, Gap and Grenoble probably being the most significant ones...correct me if I'm wrong:)

Well, you are wrong:

That map isn't accurate. Mulhouse isn't in the Ligue Magnus - they're in FFHG Division 1. Instead there should be Chamonix which is also a fairly significant team in French hockey, with 30 championships (well, at least for Chamois de Chamonix). They merged with Morzine-Avoriaz in 2016 to become the Chamonix-Morzine Pioneers

france has produced some good players of late. where is the french hockey hotbed if its not paris?

Rouen

Bellemare and Roussel both played junior there.

Grenoble is also mentioned a lot by French fans. Texier a prospect for this year comes from that system as does Huet.

France has been getting better the last few years so having a tournament there isn't a bad idea, but the city choice could have improved as could the presentation.

Roussel only played one year in Rouen. He is more like Da Costa, he was trained overseas. Rouen is still a great minor hockey club. The biggest in France are Rouen, Grenoble and Amiens.

From today's press conference in Cologne:
[German fed president] Reindl also had a surprising explanation for one of the minor glitches that affected the tournament – problems with the ice during two games involving Slovakia.

“It was simply a player using a certain kind of body oil that created a problem with the ice,†he said. “It was simply a mistake, nobody was to blame. Now we know what’s going on.â€
