Who'll Captain teams at Worlds?

Just for fun, I'm making lists of most likely players to captain teams at upcoming World Championships, along with which kids (22 and under will play) and which, ummm distinguished elders(38 and older will play) JMHO, of course, I'm also listing more than one choice for captain per team as the rosters will be skewed because of lockouts or Euro playoffs

Canada: Captains: Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, Scott Stevens, Jarome Iginla, and theres more where that came from

Kids: Probably none, Canada has a plethora of guys 23 and older that will probably take the spots. I'll say maybe Rick Nash or Jason Spezza tho

Wily Old Vets: Stevens, Yzerman, Lemieux, McInnis.Probably a couple others I've fogotten, altho I doubt CUJO will make it on


USA: Captains: Chelios, Guerin,Keith Tkachuk,(God help us if Brett Hull makes captain)

Kids: Maybe Al Montoya as backup, I think the Americans may have injury problems with some of their goalies

Wily Old Vets: Chelios, Hull(I wish I paid more attention to American players, 'cos I'm sure there are more kids and vets )



Russian Captains: I know Yashin was captain of the last World Championship team, but I'm making the picks here, so: Mogilny, Fedorov,Gonchar, Alexei Kovalev, Samsonov, Datsyuk. (Frankly I would let anybody including Alexander Ovechkin captain the team before Yashin)

Kids: Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Malkin(longshot)

Wily Old Vetsretty sure there aren't any active Russian players 38+ . Not any that would make the team, at any rate

Sweden Captains: Markus Naslund, Mats Sundin, Petr Forsberg,Nik Lidstrom, Daniel Alfredsson

Kids/Vets: Can't think of any 22- or 38+ for Sweden

Finland Captains: Koivu or Selanne

Oh, I wouldn't worry about the "Euro playoffs" since they all end well before the World Championships begin.

Sweden Captains: Markus Naslund, Mats Sundin, Petr Forsberg,Nik Lidstrom, Daniel Alfredsson

Kids/Vets: Can't think of any 22- or 38+ for Sweden

Peter Forsberg is injured and most likely out for the season. Nik Lidström and Mats Sundin has decided both not to play any hockey this season unless the NHL starts and won't be playing the WC. My guess is that Henrik Zetterberg or Jörgen Jönsson will probably be named team captain.

No Swedish player under 22 is good enough and there are basicly no swedish players 38+ except for a few SEL veterans who's not nearly good enough to play an international tournament.

Well, Forsberg's injury has been listed at 6-8 weeks last time I checked, so the jury's sill out on that one. Almost positive Nik Lidstrom has said he would not go because he hasn't played hockey all year, but hey, you never know.Don't know if Sundin has commented, but I'd suspect a similar thing for him.However, my money is on either Nasland or Alfredsson, both playing in Europe and both vetran NHL captains to beat out Zetterberg and Jonsson.
