They’re definitely dangerous but I think people see them as a good stylistic fit. FLA pushes the pace offensively and gives up a lot of chances. A game like that can play into our hands since we have elite offensive talent. If Soup returns to his elite level that type of game will favour us as I trust him to make more saves then Bob

That's fair, I'll admit my "analysis" is superficial but still, their record is very impressive.

I think we match up best against Pittsburgh, then Washington, then Boston; and although Boston is tempting to pick, I chose Carolina for a few reasons . . .
- beating Freddy Andersen
- I think we match up well against them
- would be seen as a solid victory against a very good team (a contender for sure - until the general public realise that regular season Andersen is a much different goalie than playoff Andersen)

Probably the mostly unlikely match-up to happen though - hopefully in the third round . . .

Voted New York as they are just great goaltending and PP. They suck on ES but then you really run the risk of their goalie just being lights out and stealing it.

Boston would be a close second. We're likely getting Florida or Tampa in the first round though. Just hope we finish strong and have home ice in the first round and that there is a crowd.

I picked NYR just for the change of pace. I see enough of Florida and Tampa in the regular season, and don't have any desire to watch another 1st round matchup with Boston.

How many playoff games have you been to? I don't think anyone who's attended would make such a statement.
Obviously your reading comprehension sucks, I am based in Calgary and I guarantee you it’s not even comparable.

How is someone suppose to know where you live?
How can you guarantee something isn't comparable if you've never experienced it?

I didn't see victory listed as an option. That's what I want in the first round. No victory. No core.

Regular season Freddy is .916
Post season Freddy is .916

He is literally the same in regular season and post season. His last 2 post-seasons for toronto he was .922 and .936.

He's a fine playoff goalie. None of our recent playoff losses have been on goaltending from Reimer to Freddy to Campbell all 3 gave us good enough goaltending to win. The team fell apart.

Eye test told me different . . . I have heard and seen those stats, and I get it . . . but statistics can be misleading when not put together with situational real time observations. Again, I don't think it's a cut and dry "he choked thing" at all, and obviously it was never all on him - but I don't think he was a fit to be our goalie who took us to the next step.

That's fair. I do agree it was time for him to go. My bad I get a bit defensive because a lot of people rag on him and I feel like gave a lot to the team.

All good bud.
To use a bad quote . . . "we're in this together". We are Leafs Nation, and in the end, if it makes our team better, I don't care if I'm right or wrong I only care about winning that silver trophy

Hate to bump but it looks like the options have been narrowed done quite a bit. With a most likely 100 point season the Toronto Maple Leafs are proud to select the defending Champs as their first round opponent. Meanwhile if we we're in the Pacific we could be playing the Oilers or the Kings or something.

Anyways, couple other scenarios could play out at this point. Boston could send us to the wild card spot were we face either Carolina or Florida most likely, Pittsburgh could overtake Carolina in this situation although I don't see it. Honestly all them teams seem preferable over Tampa Bay to me.

Another wildcard is Toronto and Boston passing Tampa and face of in the first round. Not likely but I wouldn't be against this and seems like an evenly matched series.

Then we have Tampa who we are on course to face off against and would preferably be avoided.

With new information and the landscape of the standings as is, has your choice changed or your perspective on our realistic opponent at this time?

I'd honestly like to drop into the wild cards and get Pittsburgh or Carolina somehow.

But Florida or Tampa? Sure. F*** facing the Bruins. I get how.....therapeutic/liberating/whatever it would be to beat them, but save that for a 2nd round matchup or later.

Do not want to face Boston in the first round. a) tired of losing to them b) sick of the same f***ing matchup every year.

Worst team possible, so when we lose again our loser management can't use "a tough matchup" as an excuse.

And who would you consider that to be? Not arguing against management one way or another. But we'd be the betting underdog against pretty much every eastern conference playoff team besides probably Washington or New York. Boston would probably be about even odds and Pittsburgh would be around there too I bet. Any other team will be the favorite and those are our likely opponents. So what team did you have in mind?

Yea idk, unless we somehow get to first it's gonna be a rough first round.

Anyone.

It doesn’t matter.

The team that gives the Leafs the most trouble is the Toronto Maple Leafs.

If they play well can beat anyone. If the don't play well they will beat no one.

Fair and well said. I agree this team firing on all cylinders and playing their best can best anybody.

My hope is every match up being a tough opponent motivates them. Against the 112 point Boston team that was favored to win years ago it was a life and death battle to the end... and then a Montreal team that I get nauseous even thinking about, the same thing...

Just one lucky bounce in these elimination games in years past and I doubt Leaf fans are this jaded and pessimistic.

They've gone to the limit in series against Boston, Columbus and Montreal. Can't be overly concerned with the team at the other end of the rink at this point.

The Leafs can still miss the playoffs and I won’t be surprised if they do. If they do get in, it will be a wildcard spot and they will be out in the first round.

Jackets are 16 points back. Leafs are a lock to playoffs. All that’s left to determine is where they end up.
