With Edmonton defeating Colorado in OT, the only two teams that can clinch the #1 seed in the West are the Oilers and Vegas. Which team would you like the Jets to face, and why?

FWIW, for the Jets to face the Oilers, Edmonton has to win in their final game, while Vegas has to lose in regulation time. Colorado and Dallas will not be able to catch the Pacific winner.

Edmonton is looking like one of, if not the best team in the NHL right now, so I'd like to avoid them if at all possible. Vegas on the other hand, isn't as good as their record. They are not pushovers by any means but they may be one of the weaker teams in the west.

Edmonton is scary...but so is their goaltending
Skinner is currently 11th in the NHL in GSAx. That's well into above average goal-tending territory, and it's still their only real weakness.

I think we could beat the Oilers but they one of the few teams where I would feel like real underdogs.

I'd say Vegas.

I don't trust either of the two teams goaltending as of yet.

But oilers peaking at the right time and have been the best team since their TDL additions. Mcdrai is even more productive than last year, and I think their overall depth is better.

Helle can of course steal a series on his own. I know we've had a few high scoring games the past 7-10 days (sharks, wings, devils) however I'm still a bit wary on this team's scoring.

Take out the Oilers again. Trash the Oilers then watch Edmonton cry. Skinner this years Playoff Markstrom. An early exit and Edmonton implodes. The end of the McDrai era. If the Oilers lose. Pretty good chance Draisaitl traded.

The Columbus Blue Jackets if that is possible. :sarcasm:

McDavid and Draisaitl are terrifying. The Oilers are looking REAL good since getting Kane back and adding Ekholm. Their PP alone could win a series.

I'd rather take my chances with Vegas personally, even though we are 0-2-1 vs them this season.

I'd like to play the Oilers because I think that the Jets play better on good ice. Also the Jets have been pretty good at matching Mc Jesus, especially at home. This is the kind of series where I think goaltending could be the difference.

I really don't like the Vegas sideshow, and I'd be content to let shiny helmeted or expansion teams play each other in the 1st round.

Winnipeg-Edmonton is a legit rivalry, and the games tend to be great entertainment. Not sure we'd win, not sure we'd lose. That's what playoff hockey is all about.

Vegas. Oilers are looking better having upgraded their Defence and having a hot goalie.
Besides wanting some revenge, I think the Jets might be able to take the series.

Morrissey has proven to be extremely good at shutting down McDonk, but the Oilers as a whole are a much better team than the last playoff series. They have defence now and have more scoring threats. Let someone else wear them down while we stomp Vegas.

A little torn. I will hate losing to either on one hand and particularly enjoy beating either on the other, if we can.

That said, my antipathy toward F**k Vegas is more recent, so I will enjoy beating them even more. So I pick F**k Vegas.

Vegas is the easy choice for me. I think Edmonton will be trouble for anyone in Round 1. I would prefer them battered and beaten up a bit before facing them. I can see them getting to the finals this year.

I'd rather face Vegas in general. But, Edmonton has some demons of getting swept by the Jets. McDavid is so scary though.

What is best in life?

To crush the Oilers, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!

This is the only possible answer.

Plus, you know, I live in Edmonton and it would be fun. 2021 was kind-of fun, but because of Covid restrictions I didn't fully get to enjoy the Jets sweeping the Oilers.

Well the Jets were 2-1 this season against the Oilers so I'd go with Edmonton. Although I think we're in tough against either team.

Friends, I would like to present my reasoning for wanting to face Vegas over the Oilers.

Most of the reasoning stems from what others have posted. If we get the first round of the oilers, they will not have been beaten up enough (then again, supposedly we won’t have either).

Vegas doesn’t feel like they’re on as much of a tear.
When I think about goalies tearing up the playoffs in recent years, I think to the ones who do it consistently… and I think the last goalie who has been consistently scary in the Western playoffs is MAF. We don’t have to face him in the first round. Jonathan Quick hasn’t been scary good/consistent in playoffs since… what 2017?
More often, I hear about random No-name rookie goalies going on a tear and then being terrible the next year (Kuemper, Binnington, Hamburgler, Holtby etc) or being injured/unavailable (Matt Murray, Carey Price).

And then there’s Vasilevsky and MAF. In my mind they both qualify as anomalies.

If we’re going to get beaten in the playoffs. I’d like to play a team that we have a chance at, and a team that doesn’t seem like they’re going to goalie us (I’m actually really glad Saros didn’t make the playoffs, would be worried about him).
Stuart Skinner strikes me as the “rookie who caught fire” this year. They might not make the finals, but if he plays like he’s been playing, they might.

TL;DR:

I’d rather face an aging Quick than a hot Skinner.
But truth be told I just hope we don’t get goalied.
