With the World Cup and World Juniors both wrapping up recently, I was thinking of who each national hockey team's equivalent is in football/soccer?
I think the most obvious one would be Canada (hockey) and Brazil (soccer/football). The most successful and passionate countries for each sport respectively, the success of their national teams is almost apart of each nation's identity.
USA and Argentina would probably be a good comparison too. Argentina is the other powerhouse in the Americas in football/soccer just like how USA is the other powerhouse in the Americas in hockey; both have some intense rivalries with Canada/Brazil
Germany and USA also have some similarities where both are mid-tier national teams in hockey and soccer, respectively, but I feel like if there was more interest/investment, they could both become very formidable sides
Czech Republic would be Spain. Both countries had a golden generation where they won a lot of important titles within a few years, however they've been searching for that new group of golden gen since their original star players retired.
