Now that franchise player is locked up long term, and yes 5 years is long term all that's really left is to bring in a couple guys on PTO's

I wenr through cap friendly and there are a few guys I'd like to sign.

Max Comtois, obviously this is dependent on him being in the clear from team Canada But if he is I feel like he'd be an upgrade on Sam Lafferty and he'd probably take the minimum which would save them 325-350K ideally Lafferty would clear waivers and be an option in case of injury.

Tatar, Now I don't want to lose Jarnkrok, I like him a lot actually. But if you could bring in Tatar on a PTO, or even a cheap deal, it could make sehse to sign Tatar, and trade Jarnkrok for assets because You're likely getting just as much offense out of Tatar for a cheaper price and there is likely less term commitment.

Josh Bailey, I actually think this one happens because It's been mentioned including on free agency day.

Paul Statsny might be a short term solution at 3C, and if not, still likely a better option than Lafferty, and probably takes the Minimum

I'd like to see Treliving go whole hog on the tough guy approach and give Kassian and Watson a try.

There's a couple Yourapeeing guys I read about recently too. Aktell, Smejkal, and Pulli. They're all over 6'4" and tip the scales at 210+ pounds.

I don't expect they'll be available, but if training camp rolls around and Kane, Bailey, and Tatar are all still unsigned, they should be getting an invite.

Watson has a PTO with TB

Several of the unsigned UFAs don't really seem like the PTO types other than perhaps as a formality due to team's cap situation (like Aston-Reese last fall).

Josh bailey is one player I see happening as a real PTO because he appears to be a fading NHLer. Same with Stastny. I don't think either can contribute to the 2023-24 Leafs.

What about Nolan Patrick? Is he still attempting to keep his hockey career going? That talent for league minimum could be a real coup even if a team only got half a season of hockey out of him.

Mason Shaw and Simon Benoit. Neither will blow you away but they'd be solid depth for cheap

That figures.

They're probably gonna sign him.

It's only a matter of time before he's punching Tavares and Matthews in the face too. Treliving should think about bringing in at least one more heavyweight. Reaves can only do so much on own.

A one man wreaking crew is still only one man.

If TB wants to put Watson on the ice against our top 6 I hope they do

Patrick would be an interesting low risk/high reward kind of move. A lot on injury issues but he's still young.

I thought about Nolan Patrick, unfortunately I suspect he's done

Tyler Motte could be a good energy forward that could work well with Kampf in a shutdown role and kill penalties.

Nick Holden in a Jordie Benn 7/8 role.

Sam Gagner and Josh Bailey. Depth guys with the Tavares connection.

I don't think we need Jordie Benn, the piece they need is a bigger piece

Not sure what is on the Marlies for depth D but what about Ryan Murray or Ethan Bear?

Jujhar Khaira, a good plumber
Danton Heinen
Would like a greasy vet that can play 4th line centre. Eric Staal maybe.

Guys like Tatar or Kane don't need try outs.

Bailey might. That would be a great option.

Benoit or Holden on the blueline would be perfect targets for a PTO. Benoit logged over 19 minutes a game last season with Anaheim. Holden got nearly 20 the year before with Ottawa.

Like Stastny Comtois or Bailey lol.

Why create a thread on PTO targets when you then say we don't need a lot and that the piece we need is a significant one?

Because while I don't think think this team needs a lot That doesn't mean That if you can't get better you shouldn't do it.

Do they NEED to replace Sam Lafferty in the bottom 6? no they don't.

But are the likes of Max Comtois, Josh Bailey or Paul Statsny better than Sam Lafferty?

Yeah assuming they are healthy they are and they'd all probably sign for around the minimum.

So SHOULD you replace Sam Lafferty with the likes of Max Comtois, Josh Bailey or Paul Statsny?

Yes you should, you should do anything that makes you even 1% better.

The piece we NEED is Noah Hanifin, Brett Pesce, Conor Murphy, Nikita Zadorov, Mikeal Backlund etc.

That's not available until January at the earliest.

Until then It's little tweaks.
