According to RDS, these were the lines at practice:

Lemieux-Sakic-Iginla
Smyth-Lecavalier-Heatley
Gagné-Richards-St-Louis
Marleau-Draper-Maltby
Morrow-Thornton-Doan

So who do you think won't play? It would be a mistake to have both Doan and Thornton in the pressbox.

I definatly dissagree with those defensman after how bad Jovanovski and Brewer were in the exibition games.

I'd like to see these lines.

Lemieux Sakic Iginla
Marleau Thornton Heatley
Richards Lecavalier St.Louis
Smyth Draper Doan

Niedermayer Foote
Jovo Redden
Brewer Regehr

Sound like the Thornton line are out, but I think there will still be a lot of line switching to come, seeing as all eight teams make it through the round robin? (not that I'm complaining, at least I'll be able to see someone playing hockey).

The D sitting are Hannan and Bouwmeester, and I'd be surprised if those changed much.

Gagné was there before and is miles ahead of Maltby Draper and Morrow for pure skill and creativity. Joe has had a sub par preseason along with Doan, wouldnt be fair to sit Gags.

Thornton and Doan stepped it up in the last game a lot.

Thornton did not impress me at all in the exhibition games, so it's not surprising if he sits. I would put Bouwmeester in ahead of Brewer who didn't look that great either.

Did you see Thornton in the game on Saturday vs. Slovakia? He was a monster...it would be hard to sit him against a physical US team.

I'd agree with J-Bo...sitting him over Brewer would be silly.

Maltby, Morrow, Gagne and Brewer should not be included in the line-up for tonight's game. Maltby and Morrow are useful players for their NHL clubs but they are out of their league at this tournament. Gagne did not impress me in Salt Lake City and adds nothing to the team that we do not already have up and down the line-up. Draper is unique in that he brings speed and a decent scoring touch, but more importantly, tenacity and checking ability. Brewer is slow and not nearly as punishing as he ought to be given his size. Hannan has played his way into the starting line-up and, along with Foote and Regehr, provides the balance we need with offensive defencemen Niedermayer, Redden and Jovanovski.

Thornton was one of our best players in the final exhibition game and, with Iginla and Heatley on his wings, would center the most dominant line in the tournament. I do not understand why many of us are even addressing the possibility of him being scratched tonight. Oh, right, because Pat Quinn is the head coach!

The Ottawa Sun is reporting that Marleau, Morrow, and Smyth will be the forwards out. I really don't understand the loyalty to Gagne and not Smyth (If this is true), personally I'd much rather have Smitty in there over Gags. That being said, they should both be in ahead of Maltby.

On the D, they reported the usual Hannan and J-Bo. I also think that Hannan deserves to be in there, more so than Brewer.

Tsn is reporting Patrick Marleau, Kirk Maltby, Kris Draper, Jay Bowmeester, Scott Hannan are all scratched... so the Smyth thing seems to be fixed.

As for Brewer, I will as always defend him and say he has played thus far better than Jovo, so I'm unclear on why everyone has the hate on for Brewer... but to each there own I guess.

:lol
Oh my, it has shown how much you've seen Brewer play! Neidermayer is a better skater, and Jovo is probably slightly better, after that, no Dman for Canada is as good a skater as Brewer. That's actually the reason Brewer always looks that much better on the big ice - it allows him to use his speed more.

All this talk about sitting Brewer when the worst Dman through these pre-tournament of the experienced group was Jovo easily.

Oh, and I agree with having Morrow out there to play against the States..... against the softer European teams he probably wouldn't be as effective. But agains the older and larger American team I think he makes alot of sense. Remember, between Marleau and Morrow you aren't picking who the best player is to play. You have to pick who's going to be the better fourth liner.

Agreed. What has Brewer done to deserve such hatred? He had a suspect first game, but a lot of people did, plus he was paired with Jovo, who has NOT impressed me in over 8 months. I though he played pretty bad this year for the nucks and hasn't improved any in any of the games I have seen so far.

Brewer has looked steady if unspectacular, Jovo has been brutal so far. I would given Hannan a start for Jovo and would pair Brewer with Neidermeyer since they played great together in the WC this year.

Redden - Foote
Neidermeyer - Brewer
Regher - Hannan

that would be my lineup. JayBo prolly deserves a shot too, but he is so young he is mostly here for XP since he will be one of Canada's best D-men for a very long time and has to get used to international play at this level sometime.

For the Slovakia game: I expect that Bouwmeester will play if Jovo can't. As for forwards, maybe Marleau in for Morrow? Not sure.
