Tarasenko is a legit 1st line winger and goal scorer. Getting that for a 1st rounder and some middling extras is a great deal.

The results will change how this trade looks after the playoffs. But for this moment, I'd say NYR made a great deal.

I don't really get the Rags trading their 1sts for rentals in back to back years when they aren't really top contenders. I don't think Tank pushes them over the edge this year. But the value isn't terrible. Tank when fully healthy and playing to his capabilities is a stud. Disagree with the strategy of trading for rentals at this point in their window but if they're gonna do it this isn't a bad rental.

Blues did fine with it, not a huge return but decent value and they ultimately had to trade him. I say the trade is even.

Rangers get a good acquisition and Blues get a decent return for a guy was who UFA and wanted out anyways

I'd say its mostly even
Yeah it's a standard deadline rental. The Blues got the going rate for a pending UFA, the Rangers paid the going rate.

The only way a trade like this could be a loss is if say, the Blues only got a 3rd round pick, or the Rangers gave up any of Kakko, Laf, Chytil, Miller, Schneider, etc.

I don't really see a problem they had 2 1st this year and last year that Rental helped them reach the ECF. Looking at Panarin and Mika's ages they have a window that they need to capitalize on.

Voted even.

In terms of long term asset management the rangers got hosed (factoring in buchnevich), but thats a topic for another thread.

Very interested to see Tarasenko with Panarin.

I voted even given the circumstances, I am shocked the prospect was Skinner though, I thought we'd have given up someone better. Skinner is still very young but a borderline prospect at this point.

Even, but only because Tarasanko had a NTC. It wouldn’t be the first time players didn’t want to go anywhere but NY. They’ve got at least 3 on their roster already.

Must have sucked losing in the playoffs last year to not top contenders.

They went to the Conference Finals last year, were two wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals, and are currently 7th in the NHL in Points Percentage. In what world are they not a true contender?

strangely, if they only have to pay the 4th round pick instead of the 3rd round pick, it's definitely the rangers, who lost the trade.
