Who win WJC17?

Your predictions?

I think Russia will be the main favorite.

Canada is and always will be the main favorite. Especially when it's played in Canada. They might have had a weaker draft in 2016 by their standards than usual, but it was still very strong in comparison to any other nation.

Hoping Czechs can finally get some medal, it's been such a long run without semifinals...

WJC is unpredictable, so it's more like a game of chance, than a prediction. And my answer is...

Take 6 teams. 1. Canada 2. USA 3. Russia 4. Sweden 5. Finland 6. Czech

Then go to this site and roll a dice. I did and got 6. So it's Czech. Pity, because I root for Russia of course. But you can't go against a dice.

Can Usa and Finland would win medals for sure if all u 20 players from NHL would be present this year :D. Russia Sweden etc just cant compare in talent in this age group atm to those 3..

Confirmed. Lock the Czech.

I wonder is Canada being the venue would lead to semi-official agreement for all teams to send their best U20s? Where exactly do the organise them, and does the NHL owe them anything or otherwise want to boost the attendance therewith?

The answer would be no. The location of the tournament has no relation to what the NHL or NHL teams do with regards to junior eligible players on their roster. It is strictly on a team by team basis and whether that player is performing, or not performing, on a NHL level.

I can't recall a single instance where a player (Canadian) performing well, playing significant minutes and contributing on a NHL roster and then is loaned out to the junior team for the tournament because the tournament is in Canada. A Canadian teenager in the NHL who is performing well would take such a move as a demotion, a step backwards. Once he's a pro, then he has no interest in a junior tournament.

I do recall instances of tournaments in Canada or in the general area (2011 Buffalo) and of Canadian teenagers in the NHL not performing well or playing significant role and were still not loaned out to the junior team.

Each team will make its own decision as to what is in the players' best interest in terms of development. And that is all this tournament is for NHL GMs, a development tool. Some GMs value it more while others do not.

This would have no impact on NHL teams decisions. The NHL would have no interest in McDavid playing this tournament, he simply sells too many tickets around the league. Even past that, the fact its in Canada generally makes no difference. In 2015 when it was in Toronto/Montreal like this year a bunch of eligible names were not there. For example, even though he was playing sparingly, the Lightning didn't send Drouin (other key names missing include Ekblad, and Mackinnon).

The biggest name who will be at this event most likely is Dubois. No chance we see McDavid, Matthews, Hanifin, and Laine. Small chance, but unlikely we see Marner, Konecny, Zacha, Aho, Provorov and Werenski. These next guys I'd say are 50/50 at the moment, this would include D. Strome, Tkachuk, Chychrun, Larsson, and Crouse. Good chance they get sent down or loaned would include Barzal, Beauvillier, Chabot, Sergachev, Speers, and Puljujarvi. Guys like Eriksson-Ek, Kylington, Gurianov, and A. Nylander could be recalled from the AHL, but at the moment I'd say its highly likely they are there.

Finland will be ridiculously good again if they get even 2 of Laine, Puljujarvi, Aho and Juolevi. Right now i wouldn't be shocked if they ended up with 3 of those 4.

If not, then Canada or USA.

Age of the finns is for real, 3 golds in 4 years is coming.

2014 defensive win
2016 offensive win
2017 balanced win

If / when Oilers sent Puljujärvi to AHL it's not sure is he coming to world juniors at all.
Puljujärvi is already double world champion in juniors and he doesn't have nothing to prove anymore in junior world championships but if Oilers release him so be it.
Juolevi will be in the team really likely.

Here's the returning players what Finland will get.
Aleksi Saarela
Veini Vehviläinen
Kasper Björkqvist
Julius Nättinen
Olli Juolevi
Vili Saarijärvi ( if he's recovered his injury)

Then there's will be some players of U18 WJC gold medal winning team at least these guys will be Finland's final team in world juniors.
Eeli Tolvanen
Kristian Vesalainen
Markus Niemeläinen
Juuso Välimäki
Urho Vaakanainen
Miro Heiskanen.
Janne Kuokkanen
Eetu Tuulola
Aapeli Räsänen

I might make an argument for others, but at the very least, saying Tuulola and Räsänen will make the team is jumping the gun. We have plenty other depth options who are on the same level.
