Mikko Rantanen's value is plummeting.
He should've accepted Colorado's offer
Feel like the correct answer is the one who you feel is more likely to hit the open market.
Let's hope he doesn't get Klingberged.
The one who hasn't been a Playoff ghost.
I Hope he does. I like seeing greedy players and agents get theirs. If it’s true he’s turning down 100m in Carolina, move him and let him be someone else’s problem.Let's hope he doesn't get Klingberged.
I struggle to see how Marner’s current NMC gives him an advantage in negotiating his next contractThat's why I voted for Rantanen in the poll. Marner has a full NMC though and possibly has the Leafs bent over a barrel when it comes to negotiating an extension with them, but he might be more likely to stay where he is than test the open market. Rantenten, however, just got traded, so Carolina has a very short window in which to convince him to stay and sign an extension rather than test the UFA market.

He will still get the biggest UFA contract in NHL history should be reach free agency. Sure he hasn't looked great in Carolina but hes still firmly in his prime, not to mention GMs will always pay free agents for past performance. He could go pointless the rest of the season and he wouldn't lose any money as a free agent.
I think you underestimate just how desperate some teams are once the free agent market opens. His own team walked away from him.
If there’s a GM dumb enough to give him what Colorado offered or more then I feel bad for the fans of that Team
His own team would also gladly take him back if he somehow manages to hits free agency. His own team walked away from him.
