McDavid is 99th player in League history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. It is very possible, we will see 100th player this season. Maybe more.

Question is, who will win this race?

For now:
Brad Marchand - 942 points
Nathan MacKinnon - 932 points
Jamie Benn - 915 points
Corey Perry - 909 points
Nikita Kucherov - 897 points
Brent Burns - 886 points
Leon Draisaitl - 872 points

Benn, Perry, Burns are very unlikely. Draisaitl must have insane season (150 points) to make it. But who knows? He plays with McJesus.

Marchand needs only 58 points. But his point to game ratio isn't such high, he will be first.

It looks like MacKinnon is the top dog, if he stays healthy. But we shouldn't underestimate Kucherov.

MacKinnon will get there before Marchand.

Kucherov would have to fall out a window to not get it.

Perry seems unlikely to keep up his 20 points a year pace for another four seasons, but if anyone could muster the pure spite to make it’s work, it’s CP10/24/94

Looking at their current numbers and production, Mack should be first. Mack, Kuch and Marchand could (should) all be there by the end of the season. Crazy. Drai is probably a little bit too far.

Jamie Benn had had 78 and 60 points the last two years, but is only on pace for about 40 this year. Since he is going down about 20 points per year at this rate, he might get 20 next year, so it would take him 3 years to get to 1000. That is, unless he becomes selfish as he gets closer.

Just to make the math a bit more digestible:

These are the players who will likely hit 1000 this season:
Marchand 58 points to go - 13 this season - 71 points for 1000
MacKinnon 68 points to go - 33 this season - 101 points for 1000
Kucherov 103 points to go - 24 this season - 127 points for 1000

This should've been McDavid! Phil Kessel has been trying to get a contract ever since he won the cup back in 2022, but nobody was willing to sign him so he could hit 1000 career points. Now we get a far less deserving player who gets the honor of being the 100th player to hit 1000 career points...

IF covid shutdown didnt happen, McDavid could've beat Pavelski for being the 97th player to hit 1000. think that wouldve been more serendipitous.

In order of likeliness this season

1. MacK
2. Kucherov

That's it. I don't think Perry, Burns or Benn get there. Marchand needs 2 seasons but I think he will eventually. Drai should hit it by Halloween (assumign it isn't another shit start for the OIlers)

If he stays healthy my money is on Nate being the next player to hit 1,000. Marchand likely next to do it after Nate. I expect Marchand to pick up his points pace as the season progresses. He had 3 surgeries in the off-season and has been looking more comfortable as of late.

No he couldn't. Pavelski was the 97th and Tavares was the 98th, McDavid couldn't have gotten there faster than either of them. Both Pavelski and Tavares would have gotten there quicker if Covid didn't happen as well, but more importantly, Pavelski, even with Covid, was there by the end of the 2023 season. At that point McDavid was at 850pts. Tavares didn't get there until the 2024 season, he was at 975pts at the end of the 2023 season, so without Covid, he gets there during the 2023 season, but either way, there is no possibility at all that McDavid gets there before either of them.

I agree, in terms of likelihood, MacK is a lock for this season pending health, Kucherov probably gets there this year and Marchand probably misses, but Kucherov could miss this year and Marchand could get there this year....though, it is more likely that Kucherov gets there an Marchand misses. Marchand getting 71pts this year is far from impossible, but I think he falls 10pts short or so and Kucherov getting 127pts is not a lock, but he's pacing for it.
