I voted that none are snubs because I don’t think there’s anything egregious, but I think Eklund and Thompson stand out

Other: Tom Wilson (CAN)

I never understood the desire for Wilson. He’s a good player with a strong start but he’s 30 so we know what he is already (and it’s not as good as he’s been so far), and his intimidation factor isn’t much of a factor in a glorified all star tournament like this like it would be in a real playoff series. He also takes too many penalties.

A player that tough and skilled belongs. He doesn't have to fight or play dirty, but there's basically nobody in the tournament who can match his physicality

Schiefle probably. Maybe Thompson.

Gotta say though, this might be the worst Canada roster we’ve seen in a long time. At least on paper. Sad how far we’ve come.

Hyman seems an odd choice to consider a notable omission when he has 3 goals and 8 points in 20 games while averaging over 19 minutes of ice time and more average PP time per game than any Oiler player, including McDavid and Draisatl.

I mean…I guess you could argue some sort of “chemistry with McDavid / scores the greasy goals” kind of thing - except he’s not showing any of that this season, and the Canadian roster is not lacking in hard-working wingers with a nose for the net.

I just don’t think these types of showcases ever get that physical to take him over more skilled players. If it was a playoff type tournament then sure

Bouchard is the answer here as his skillset is better than any of the other snubs as has been his recent performance.

Thompson really the only eyebrow raiser for me here. Thought Weegar and Backlund had outside chances at being the 7th D and 4th line Cs but neither have really played all that well or anything this year. Guess Sweden thought they had enough shutdown with JEE but Arvidsson is cooked, not a good selection there. Not surprised at all they didn't take Bouchard, they got enough offense and he's too mistake prone.

For a 4th line role for Canada I'd rather have had Wilson than Hagel or Jarvis but that's more a personal preference than thinking he's better than those guys. Gets shit on on this forum but he's quite a good PKer and two way player along with being a physical presence.

Jokiharju (FIN) was the biggest surprise omission for me. I think he's better than Välimäki or Haanpää. Also Finland doesn't have that many good D options, so therefore this was big surprise even comparing to the guys in OP's choices.

Would've personally loved to see also Maccelli in Finnish jersey.
