Rielly - Ellett
Giordano - Macoun
Brodie - Lefebvre
Muzzin - Mironov
Holl - Rouse
Liljegren - Gill
---------------------
Sandin - Berehowsky
Lyubushkin - McGill
This a pretty good mapping of D to D from different eras.

As for the question of who sits. I hate to state the obvious, but we will need more than 6 D to get through one round, never mind a long playoff run.

I think the answer is that Holl, Lilijegren and Lyubushkin will all be the questions for the final two spots.

If Muzzin doesn't come back healthy and better than before he could be rhe odd man out. Do we know when Sandin comes back? Those top 8 are definitely solid and deep.

If Gio and Lilly keep playing as a solid pairing then that makes this a very tough decision, until someone gets hurt.

Rielly - Lyubushkin
Brodie - Holl
Gio - Lilly
Muzzin

At this point, maybe we consider 11-7 given the state of the fourth line (unless Knies changes that outlook).

Best case?

58 / 34 / 16
Knies / 91 / 88
65 / 64 / 47
11 / 15 / 25

44 / 78
55 / 37 (or 3)
8 / 3 (or 46 or 37)

I guess this is the challenge of depth. If Knies is not an answer, 65 to second line, 25 to third line and go with 7 D?

I think 7_11 might be good to start things off. Gives the opportunity to ease Muzzin back in.
I have lots of hope for Knies but I don't see him slotting in yet especially if he doesn't get some regular season games in

Liljegren is the guy who is out when Muzz returns:

Lily has a bright future, but I'm not sure I trust him in big moments just yet. Perhaps, more games paired with Gio will get him ready for May. I certainly don't trust Holl in big or little moments but coaching staff seems to.

As long as Rielly/Lyubushkin stays solid Lyubushkin won't be sitting. "Lube" is a short-leash candidate like Lily who if he gets a start in the playoffs will be out quickly if he makes a mistake. Perhaps, there'll be a turnstyle between the Russian Bear and Lilypad based on who isn't making the big mistake.

Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin, Gio are the untouchable 4. They are not coming out save for injury. Holl has to be 5th but he sat for stretches of the regular season so we know he could be sat again.

Lybushkin is staying with Rielly until he proves he shouldn't be so I see him as 6th. Given Lybushkin and Liljegren both have no playoff experience, both are prone to quick pulls if not playing well.

Sandin has 5 playoff games under his belt, but we don't know how he is physically. Hoping he can return before end of season so we can see how he might fit in some new look pairings.

The joy in typing this was immense. To not have to consider Dermott or Marincin as a 6th? Incredible.
Don't you EVER mention that "M' guy again, Mister!

Simple question. It seems to be between Holl and liljegren.
Holl has experience but lili is playing lights out right now.
For me Holl sits. Lili is a better puck mover and his defense seems to be lili by the game. Love his mean streak.
Holl is very useful and his reach gives him some advantage, but Imo lili is already slightly better.
Who do you think sits and why?
Holl is least skilled of all our D but Dubie likes him bottom line .. makes no sense to keep this ego thing going .. stats never are any good at measuring defenders .. Holl sitting would make team better esp in playoffs
Rielly Lub
Gio Brodie
Muzzy Lily

We need at least 1 real man on each pair

Exactly he is 2nd slowest skater on D from goal line to goal line .. only Sandin is slower .. but Sandin skates at an average AHL level for speed .. but Sandin is out of lineup right now so guess who is our slowest man ,.. you got it Dubie's made man Holl

have you seen boosh skate

It’ll be Sandin (too many LDs), and an RD other than Brodie - so one of Holl, Lily or Boosh.

I’d personally like to see us try reuniting Gio/Brodie, with:

Rielly - Boosh
Gio - Brodie
Muzzin - Lily

I really hope we DON’T reunite Muzzin/Holl - they were good in the past, but have been terrible together this year. If Holl stays up, I’d keep him with Gio:

Rielly - Brodie
Gio - Holl
Muzzin - Lily

However, these are pairings I hope for, not what I expect. I expect Keefe to be more conservative, and sit Lily. Which would leave us with something like:

Rielly - Boosh
Gio - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl

Don’t like that, but I do expect to see it.

That's the way I see it.
I do like Holl but I think lili has passed him

Depend whats you want for a 5-6 th dman. A dman whos not flashy who will not bring you real offensive but will not put the team in trouble with a risky play at the wrong tim
Or
Someone you can give you some offensive upside but can put you in trouble with a risky play at the wrong time ( like last year wich that kind of play who cost 3 game)

Personally im tired to see leafs losing game because of risky player year after year.

Thornton/sandin game #1 on pp
Galchenyuk game #5
Dermott game #6

Muzzin's foot speed . injuries, Id try and trade him in the offseason, depending on his playoff performance. If he looks bad, that contract will be very hard to move.

Lyubushkin kind of reminds me of Alexander Karpovtsev. His ability with the puck is decent and surprising.
