The Head Coach and GM they fired went on to win a Stanley Cup together in LA. The Sharks still haven't reached the Finals.

I don't see this as significant.

What was that thing about Pat Quinn yesterday? Isn't he like 80?

I guess I missed that. Where did that revelation come from?

Check today's Puck Daddy. I think that's where I just saw it

I would like to see it substantiated somehow. I don't think anyone's ever hinted at it before. If it's true, that's kind of sad. Two years of Oates could've been avoided. If it's true and "knowing the market" was a reason they wanted Oates, I don't even know. There are no words.

Thanks. Definitely troubling if it's true, although as Liberati0n said it would be nice to hear something more definite than "talk."

It is from PuckDaddy, and isn't really saying anything more than talk.

There’s always been talk that Cooper was McPhee’s choice while upper management wanted Oates.

I don't think the Caps are soft at all. I think Green and Johannson are two of the softest players in the NHL though.

Wanted Benning, think he is a done deal in Vancouver so now I have no idea.

Hextall if it means Laviolette. I'm assuming they still have a good relationship? I really think Lavi is the answer to our woes

But he came from Detroit and won a cup there!

In your system of voodoo, which is more powerful, his Sharks aura or his Red Wings aura? Does mana play a role?

oh...so he didn't win a cup as a coach...head coach. the choke is more powerful. by far. as the sharks have compounded their playoff flame outs over the years like the caps. worse.

Leonsis on 106.7 talking Bullets mostly. Talking a lot about Bullets analytics so you'd hope he wants a similar emphasis, albeit more primitive by comparison, from the new GM and coach. Curiously he said their upside might be capped yet he even indirectly referred to Burakovsky lately as young players to come. Between the lines it sounds like it was really about missing the playoffs and not much else.

He did mention the next coach being someone that would be 'unvarnished in their opinions.' I would assume that goes for the GM as well and that core changes are certainly on the table if need be.

oates opinions were varnished? hunter's? boudreau's? WILSON'S? What the hell does that mean?

It means he figured out Oates was a bull****ter and the next guy isn't going to get away with it.

I forget who tweeted it but I saw today that the Caps have reached out to the Preds to ask about Trotz & Paul Fenton

So Benning is the pro scout for Chiarelli and Sweeney is the manages the cap and AHL team and also is the college scout.

Benning sounds perfect on top of Mahoney.

Its also very interesting that Providences GM is Chiarelli whereas Hershey has its own GM.

What about Norm Maciver, Asst GM for the Blackhawks? Too fresh? Only his 2nd year in role...

It's a shame Scotty Bowman is so old, I'd consider handing him the keys entirely otherwise if you could convince him...

I mentioned Maciver in a previous post. He's been the AGM for two years now, but he was the Dir Player Personnel there since 2006.

The idea of hiring a guy from a recent championship team is not how much experience they have, but how they have been around a recent champion and see how a champion is built, and can pull that knowledge over.

I don't want the guy who has been AGM for 12 years at a team that doesn't win squat. I want someone who knows the blueprint for winning a Cup and implements that blueprint here. Benning or Maciver and Lavy represent that sort of approach.

Guys from Nashville or San Jose or St Louis... no thanks.

Mark Howe: knows the players as well, or better than most. He can look at a guy and tell you there and then if the guy's a player, or not.

He's a contemporary of Holland & Bowman, and lives in Philly: we'd need DRW's permission, but they'd let him go.

AND... we get Coleen's advice for FREE. WIN WIN!

Yeah... people from the sun state don't know anything about hockey. I hear they name their teams after sea gulls.

The win a cup requirement is ridiculous. Does this mean that a couple years ago Benning would have been an easy no? Boston was a playoff choker worse than the Capitals until a couple years back.
