One thing about the Caps org that the new GM better not touch at all is drafting.

But I think if director of amateur scouting and team president sit with him and explain that he shouldn't fix what ain't broke, they may get their way.

Anyway, there's been a buzz about a Sharks director of scouting, I'd really like that guy
.

A buzz directly linking him to the Caps job, or a buzz about him deserving a GM job somewhere?

Deserving a GM job and also on the typical scpeculative lists for the Caps gig.

For both GM and HC positions I want guys who are modern, who are open to new ideas about the game and are creative, who don't live in the goonery of the 80s or Dead Puck Era. Sharks AGM Joe Will has been described as such, I'm wondering if their director of scouting has similar views.

no sharks or senators please. no long term blues either. these are teams that are brothers of the caps by different mothers.

Don't mind looking at a Canadian team like the Canucks for a potential GM. You got to figure they are under a lot more pressure to do well plus you know they are hockey people. We really need someone in power who only cares about hockey. Eats, sleeps, and lives it.

Remember that the goal isn't to hire the guy who has achieved the most, but the guy who will achieve the most.

Also Boston and Chicago and LA... they too had 40 year droughts

boston didn't have a history of choking. I don't equate the two. id rather hve a guy with a track record of championships

Good point, Boston never went up 3-0 in a series in recent history only to lose 4-3. Never lost to a crappy Canes team that proceed to get swept by Pittsburgh either after finishing tops in the league.

For our board witch doctor you have some pretty selective memory.

jesus....that happened to them one time. this is different than the capitals who have a losing record when achieving a 2 game lead in a best of 7 series.

please, go ahead and make your case that the boston bruins have a playoff choke history that rivals in any way the Washington Capitals.

Until a few years ago, Boston had plenty of playoff chokes. In 1988 and 1990, the Bruins were legitimate SC contenders, despite Edmonton's dominance. Let's not forget the "May Day" in 1993. I seem to remember plenty of chokes by the Bruins and Blackhawks. Watching those teams win the SC give me hope the Caps can someday.

There it is, Gretzky and caps talk in the same sentence.

Bob Mckenzie "@TSNBobMcKenzie: I'll be curious to see if WSH owner Ted Leonsis reaches out to Wayne Gretzky to discuss a possible executive position with the Capitals."

Before anyone blows a gasket, yeah it's speculation but it's right up teds alley and I don't think it would be a good choice. Not as a GM or Coach anyway.

I saw that. That might be one person that Ovy can't ignore for any reason.
